I have yet another question for all those members of the modding community who are so inclinded to respond.

I pulled a mag-drive 3 pump from an old cooling loop and am planning to use it in my new build. In order to make things cleaner inside the case and out, I'm seeking to modify the power cord / plug for the pump. Here's my plan of action, tell me if you think it's at all viable please.

I just tore apart an old no-name powersupply to claim the "on" switch and the plug end. Both were removed successfully and without incident. I aim to trim the cord on the mag-drive 3 down to about 1.5' and splice the power connector and switch from the old power supply to the end. (I'm looking to change the male connection to a female one and add the switch so I can turn it off and on without unplugging it from the wall. Also, I plan to use two standard power cables with my rig, one for the psu, the other for the pump.)

Can anyone think of any reason this either a) won't work, or b) will kill me.

-Thanks again

It SHOULD be fine, assuming you wire everything correctly and make sure to insulate every exposed point on the splicing. Also, make sure the 120V lines don't touch any part of the case. Only the housing.

I wired my house two years ago and it hasn't burnt down yet, so I'm thinking I'll be fine on this one. Thanks SxS for the input.

I have done exactly what you just described, to the letter. Worked perfectly for almost a year before I parted the system.

ever sonsidered wiring in a relay instead of a switch? or in parallel to the switch so you still havea bypass for the relay? then the relay would turn on the pump whenever the psu is on.

Thought about wiring it through the old PSU so one would run when power was supplied to the other. Ran outta ideas as to how to do it neatly without voiding the warranty on the brand new truepowerII I just bought for this rig. College = major drain of cash / Modding = seriously expensive hobby

Wasn't entirely clear on your original post, but why don't you do what I do with all my dual-psu systems. I run a 5V relay off a standard 4pin molex connector from my main psu (your Antec TP) to my slave psu's power-on lines.
