hello,

I got my pentium D 940 running on my asus p5p800se. I didn't want a ddr2/pci-e board as i don't got money for those things.

dont know if its worth upgradin' my p5p800se once the conroe boards come out.

right now all i need is ram. though I am maxed out on my OC at 3.52ghz from 3.2ghz stock

its not my memory as i changed it to lowest clock and tried ocing and still hangs. I say its my PSU. not powerful enough. the 3.3v is at 2.88V
12V @ 11.71V, 5V @ 4.93V. Vcore at 1.21V-1.28V (fluctuates), CPU temp 33C, Mobo temp 35C.

possibly the mobo as well. power hungry 130W 940D

That's a really low max OC. ALL the rails are low, so I'd lean towards the PSU too. If you're planning on upgrading to Conroe, it would make no sense at this point to buy a new board for the 940. Sounds like $$ would be better spent on a PSU anyway.

Conroe boards will be out soon and are backwards compatable with Prescotts/Preslers/CMs. I'd wait and get a Conroe-ready board so you can update the proc to Conroe sometime down the road without needing another new mobo. The 975 chipsets will run on the quad-cores coming after Conroe, so if you could spring for a 975 Conroe board in the next couple of months, that would probably be the most "future-proof".

Ross's lazer beam focus on the i975X chipset is reveiled

965 is another option

and the R600 MIGHT be ok (but I can only assume thats going to be a monster of a platform ;) )

any new mobo's should be kept up with in this thread

unless its the rev.304 its not compatiable with conroe..

975X was out for pressler EE the diffence is it had the wrong VRM (voltage regulation) for Conroe..
Ross was refering to the new revisions of the current MB's and the new i975X boards comming out in July.

Yeah, current 975 boards won't run Conroe, it's going to be confusing :) The last reviewer said it was a rev. 304 though (which is the only board out right now that does run Conroe). They've been in retail for a bit, but there was no guarantee you'd get rev. 304 (Conroe) instead of 302 (no Conroe).

A slew of new 975 boards for Conroe are coming soon though, so you might want to wait for them.
