my hard drive wont boot into windows anymore because of a surface error or bad sector

I think it was caused my my mag drive just a little too close.... :(

it could also just be my hd dieing on me

anyways can a fresh format get rid of any surface error?

its a westerdigital 30gb 7200rpm 1 year old hard drive

Probably want to FDISK it first. It will do an integrity check on it and usually marks any bad sectors so that they will be skipped during the format, making them unavailable.

I'd be saving for a new hard drive though. Once a sector goes bad they spread like cancer.
