Hi to all,
I have an athlon 1.4 on an ASUS A7V266 and I mounted (by carefully applying ASII) a Globalwin WBK heatsink on it with the 26cfm YSTech 60mm fan.
I added an 80mm/30cfm and a 92mm/50cfm Sunon fans for intake and 2 80mm Yate Loon (very quiet!)/~25cfm fans for exhaust. With the psu fan pulling about 30 cfm I have an overall airflow of about 70-80 cfm. That brought my cpu's temps down to 46-55 C, which I consider good for an ASUS board (I've gone up to 67C with no case cooling and no problems whatsoever - I think that the probe measures higher temps or it has a larger compensation factor). The case is not quiet, but its not loud either, just a low hum.
The point is, when I oc above 1.575GHz I get crashes and at 1.575 the cpu's temp climbs to 69C at full load (Sandra burn-in 50 times cpu and multimedia benches).
So, before I go and buy a new heatsink (SK6 my favorite) I saw some pics of 80mm fans on the WBK (without an adapter that is, these things suck). I even saw a 92mm fan at http://www.amkcomputer.com which was attached by means of a fan grill between the fan and the heatsink. I am considering the Sunon 80mm/40cfm or even the loud 50cfm model.
So to my question: has anyone done this? Is it easy to fit a 80mm fan on the WBK using the standard springs? Are the springs easy to break - they're not easy to find or I would give it a shot or two :) - and if they do break, what else can I use to fix the fan on the heatsink? And, more importantly perhaps, will it lower my temps?
Thanx in advance for all replies
