I want my comp to be as quiet as posible, so I 7v mod. my blow out fan, my SK6's fan which is a 80mm 39cfm and took out and not use the harddrive cooler anymore.(3 fans blowing into the harddrive from the front)

My cpu temp went up about 5c. (45c cpu, 27c board) which is fine as long as it quiet. The question is, is it ok to leave my harddrive with no cooling at all? it's a Maxtor 30g 7200rpm ata100.

you H.D. will most likely last longer with some kind of cooling on it. Myself I have a W.D. 60 and a W.D. 20 neither have any cooling and they run ok but they are the 5400 R.P.M. ones.

eh?

I never got into any kind of hd cooling.. I think they should be fine, i never really seen a point to it because all your doing is running it like it was made to be run.

my dual seagate 7200 rpm 40 gigs used to get pretty hot, yes hot not warm. so i bought the "ultimate hard drive cooler", works great. i got them for $19 each from my local comp store. not haveing a hdd cooler probably will not have any effect now, but if you plan to have it around for a long while i would suggest getting one (i recommend the "Ultimate Hardd Drive Cooler").

I'd say go with the 5fan HDD cooler with heatsink from www.hardcorecooling.com but it does cost $24.99 The fans are 3 40x40x10 mm and 2 50x50x10 mm

Ghetto HDD cooling, buy a Nidec thermal controlled 80 mill fan (*they seem to have very little magnetic interference) and 4 pieces of double sided tape and slap it to the bottom of Hard drive.

Cost: Less than $5 and does the job...

* Nidec Thermal Fan was only fan that didnt cause interference while cooling my monitor out of about a dozen models tested.

My favorite HD cooler is a 92 mm fan in a blowhole focused on the HD cage. I keep five drives cool with this method.
