According to AMD, the XP 1600+ requires 35.9A max at 1.75 volts.
Here's the link to the data sheet, page 31: http://www2.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/white_papers_and_tech_docs/24309.pdf

I know the case power supply doesn't create 1.75 volts, so the mobo has to step it down. What p/s voltage does it use, and how do I find out if I'm givin 'er enough juice???? Are there any good sites to read up on it?

I'm not sure if i understand what you're asking but some more info on you're system would be helpful. Like what ps do you have as well as all your other specs. You can usually check voltages in your BIOS or by getting mbm5 here (http://mbm.livewiredev.com/). Hope this helps.

I haven't purchased yet. I am looking at the EPOX 8KHA+, but I don't know what size power supply to get. Is a 300W enermax big enough? I hate buying the wrong stuff first time around. The EPOX doesn't have detailed info on the power inputs/outputs. Thanks for the help!;)

The 300w should be fine as long as you're not going to do some serious overclocking. If you don't want to oc at all then you should do just fine. If you get the brand psu that Antec puts in their case(I don't remember which one it is I'll try and find it) then you will be well off. Otherwise I'd say go for a 350w or more if you have the $$.

also here (http://forums.overclockers.ws/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=43403) is some good reading. But I'd say 300w minimum for a higher end Athlon.

Definitely go for a name brand PSU, preferably 350 watts. Lots of people dont think the PS adds stability, well, ever since I got on this Forum a year ago and quit installing crap Ive not had a lockup since puberty 8^). Just gave my trusty Antec 300 to my sisters new AK31 based system, and got an Enhance 350 from newegg.com for like 35 bucks. You cant go wrong.:D

I appreciate all the help. I think I'm gonna go with over 300w just to make sure. No sense buying too small and regretting it.

Gotta give 'er the juice, cuz it won't be staying stock speed for long!!
