can u boot from a sata optical drive ?
You can boot from ide optical drives, and you can boot from sata HDDs, so you should be able to boot from sata optical drives. The only thing that might limit you from doing that is a bios that doesn't understand sata optical drives, and lumps them in wiht SATA HDDs (but you could probably still boot from them).
But I'm not really sure, so hopefully someone else will confirm.

You should be able to. But like gnufsh said the only real problem will be the bios. But one of my buddies was able to, he just hit f8 to get the boot menu. Just make sure your bios reads it and all that good stuff.

Well, i guess this could be an issue, as what if your SATA controller isnt supoprt by windows, then how can the bios boot from it.
it is not like you have the F6 options you get when installing windows..
one way to find out :D
THe bios does not need wiondows drivers to boot from something.

All in all you should be fine. But personally I would wait for more SATA optis unless you already bought it. But once they come it will be nice for the cleanliness of the case.

but the chipset is an issue, I would do a search and see if your board supports whatever sata drive you are getting. If the Optical drive is not supported, then the drive will plain not work
