View Full Version : Can't stand the screaming anymore!

I can't stand it anymore! The high-pitched whine of my Delta 38. Right now I have it at the anemic setting (7 volts) but it doesn't cool for crap like that. If I run it at the Jet Engine setting, it cools quite well (on my FOP38), but I can't stand it like that. I need to replace it w/ something that'll move more air than my Delta @ 7 Volts and sound about the same. I was thinking of a YS Tech fan, but I don't know if they make those in 60mm. Can anybody help me out?

What about the Delta 80mm 68C.F.M. Would that fit on it. It pushes more air at a lower level of D.B.`s sounds kinda like a hair dryer.

No more Deltas. Sorry, I'm sick of the patented "High-Pitched Whine" mechanism that they seem to incorporate.

Damn. I thought there were QUIET fans that pushed lots of air (or enough to cool my processor at least).

What about Sunnon?

http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/ther60.html....theres a decently performing thermaltake fan thats really quiet 28DbA...

you can get a fandapter for like 5 bucks and run this one on it

Well, the Tt fan is aparantly the same fan thats on the Thermaltake Volcano II, and that fan is pretty anemic.

The 80mm Sunon I think would be my best bet. Sounds quiet as well (downloaded the MP3). I think the little thingies that hold the 60mm Delta on my FOP will work w/ the 80mm. Aparantly they'll bend outwards, from what I've read, anyways.

Have you considered just using a Rheostat and crank up the volume as needed? Only cost you like $5 and a trek to the 'Shack'

Or buy a prefabbed one for $10

That 80mm Sunon sounds pretty loud too... I have 4 in my case, running at 5v volts, because at 12v it's a very disturbing noise. Eg. a small aeroplane starting its engines.

I'd reconmend Papst fans. Quiet and with good performance. But some sort of baybus/reobus/LM317controller is a "must have" anyway..

What about an 80mm-->60mm adapter they work well I though...

I would recomend the Glaciator or the Volcano 6CU (Not +, V. LOud)

Try that it should cool well

I also had a FOP38 with a delta screamer. It sounded like an F-14 taking off in my case, even with the case on. So I yanked it off, and replaced it with an 80MM sunon fan. I don't have the model, since it's sticker down on my HSF. But I just stretched the mounting clips to make it stay on. It's a lot quiter, and I get the same temps with the 60MM screamer.

Thats what I wanna do. Just one question: Are you using a fan adaptor at all?

I'm not about to add in a baybus for 3 fans. More hassle than I actually need, tyvm.

What kind of performance-to-noise ratio do the Papst fans have, and where would I find one?

Nope. Just stretched the thin metal clips that were there on the 60mm fan so they hooked into the mouting holes of the 80mm fan, and hooked them on the HSF where they were on the 60mm fan. A bit of a hard thing to do, but once it's on, it's solid.

Hi Oni

I hate the noise the Delta`s make as well!
When I had my fop/ fan I used a 80mm Y.S.Tech fan 3000 rpm / 45 cfm / 34 dBh so its quiet & cools well. Stretching the clips is easy if you use long nose pliers. However I also cut a 76mm hole in the side panel of my case & mounted another fan directly in line with the heat sink fan thus blowing air directly from outside the case straight onto the cpu area. you get a really good temp. doing it this way. The 2 fans still don`t make any way the noise of the Delta.

Hope this helps

Acko

Thanks! I'll do that then.

Been there, done that, and have the T-shirt to prove it. I too had a FOP38 until it nearly drove me crazy. Almost worse than my exwife's whining. I slapped a Sunnon 80mm high output fan on the FOP heatsink, the 42 CFM one, not the noisy ultra high output one. Moves more air than the Delta and is lots quieter. Just like Wally (yatta) said, no fuss, nothing extra to buy, just put it on and pull the existing clips out farther to attach the 80mm fan. I've had this on now for at least 7 months or more and it works great.

I also, been there - done that - got the 'T' shirt. The solution is as close as your kitchen sink - water!;)

Got the teashirt too. Have had the same combo for 4 months and I am sure I now have hearing damage from it as I now have a constant buzzing. Took the plunge into water and cannot believe how quiet it is. Temps are really great too! 29C under full load see my sig below. Also achieved the 1.1G yesterday so I am well pleased.

I know what you mean. I'm in the same boat. I put my case on, because the fan was driving me crazy. I couldn't here the TV or my wife talking to me. It's still loud with the case on. I'm looking for something else.:)

Well, there's lots of suggestions above. ^_^

I too wanna get into water cooling, but for now a modified FOP38 with 80MM fan works fine with my Duron, for now.
