Hey guys.

I'm considering getting a notebook for general purpose use, basically to replace my desktop. I will do a bit of everything on it, game, video edit, office documents etcc... :p

The intels are looking good for me at this stage, i do prefer them over the turion notebooks but if you can suggest otherwise I'm open to suggestions. I've browsed through a few and picked out what I thought would be the nicest of the lot to use. I'm not really after anything with a 17" screen as thats just too annoying and big to carry around. Out of the ones listed below I am leaning towards the Asus A6VC or the HP nx6125. The Core duos do look like a good buy but will they really off that much of a difference (stupid question I know, i really have next to no knowledge in the notebook ways). :D
Prices are quoted in NZD ;)

Any thoughts, suggestions or backhands for a stupid topic?

Thanks

what are your portibility/size requirements ?

EDIT: and those prices are WAY out of whack, 2k for 1.7 P,M. ?

Don't really have that many, but 3hr battery life would be nice. Size and weight I'm not really too fussed just not a 10kg 3ft think monster :p
But the thinner the better and the lighter the better.. :)

a core duo thinkpad T60 with an x1400 video card is light, powerful and can be had for $1200 with smart shopping.

Unfortunately for a T60 in NZ I'd be look at around $3000. I would like to keep as close to $2000 as possible, looks like a damn nice notebook though

there is a guy/business here selling new t60's (but with integrated gfx) for 1150 which comes out to around 1850 in your money

Hrmm..
Looks interesting. It would be nice to avoid integrated graphics if I could, I'll note that one down though. Looks pretty good.

yeah, integrated graphics is always a step back - but none of those notebooks sport anything better than a x1400 anyway, if graphics is really an issue u might be better off with a desktop,

Yeah, the dells look like they could be worthwhile... but a pain if something goes wrong :(
