My friend has decided to try a v1 ultra heatsink. He currently has an accelero on his x1900xtx card. The memory pads are really stuck to the memory chips. Any ideas on a good method to remove the heatsink? Right now the memory pads has it stuck to the video card. I was going to suggest using a hair dryer to warm them up.

freeze or heat, the choice is yours.
actually, freezing might be a bad idea - you risk popping off the chips.

Warm it up, then slide them off...

Or try alcohol, acetone, and arcticlean.

HEAT. Lots of blowdryer heat. Use some gloves and carefully work that puppy off.

Why is he changing to a V1? What kind of temps was he getting with the X2?

He had a v1 that he got for helping upgrade a system and he just wants to see how it does. The "grass is always greener" syndrome of an overclocker.

That term doesnt apply totally to OCing.. Its more " The grass is always burned, smoking, charred on the other side" :)
