View Full Version : Games freezing
We use win98se, 12.6 HD, 191 ram, NIVIDIA RIVA TNT 2 video card, Intel motherboard. I hope I didn't leave anything out.
We also have 3 desktops set up, the only one with the problem is my son, he's a gamer. I have tried a few things to help him out, intalled a vxd patch, drivers are up to date, tried changing the virtual memory settings to a fixed amount x2. Nothing I've tried has helped.
Any ideas?? I am really getting tired of going on after him, cause sometimes after scandisk it puts me into to safe mode (automatically on boot up) because of the problems he has at shut down. I just don't know what to look for.
TIA
:)

Hi:
He plays many but the ones that seem to freeze are Oni and
Tommy Hawk skater 2. I think those are the only ones.
Thanks

What directx drivers are you using?

Check the windows update page. I know that DX8.1 is out, but I'm not sure if it exists for Win98.
How much memory is on the video card? I have a Gigabyte Ga-7ZX, Duron 800, 512MB PC133 and a GeForce 2 MX400 video card, and have no problems running Oni.
Thanks I'll check that out and I'll find the info on the memory for the video card.

The memory for the video card is 31.5 MB. Does that sound right? I don't know much about the video card stuff.
Thanks

that sounds right. Is anything running in the background? I had some problems w/ running Oni, but driver updates fixed it. You might wanna check out the bungie website (http://www.bungie.com) and see if there are any patches for that. You'll also wanna check out the site for Tony Hawk as well, but I don't know that off of the top of my head (I think its EA Sports)
I found this (http://support.bungie.com/perlbin/getSolutionListing.pl?id=303&sl_id=0) link for the Oni crashes, but like I said above, I don't know about Tony Hawk.

MAy also try a full re-install of vid-card drivers. Basicly change your display adapter (Right Click>Properties>settings>advanced>adapter>change) to standard, delete everything connected with your current drivers, reboot, and re-install. ONly thing I can think of. hope it works out for ya.
Thanks to everyone!! :)
I've downloaded Direct X 8.1, it was for my system and also some patches.
Legonaire, my son said he already tried that and unfortunately it didn't help, thanks it was worth a try.
I'll let him have the weekend to try it out and I hope it has fixed the issues we are having.
Thanks for your help

Glad to see you got it working! I had the same problem with the original DX8 drivers, too (damn Microsoft!)
