can't connect to Steam network

Just reinstalled half-life 2 on my comp, and go to log into my account, and I get a message saying that I can't connect to steamnetwork, and can't login till I do. I checked the site, and it says the server is up. Any Ideas?

try n delete the clientregistry.blob in steam folder and try it again, if not ppl that can really help you are steam support, www.steampowered.com better chance there imo
