View Full Version : Done It
Hi Guys,
Thanks to this forum i have been able to O/C my first PC from 1.2GHz to 1.4 so far. It is a great feeling but i have one little snag. PC does boot to desktop very quickly (under 25 seconds), but then i have to wait for about 30-45 seconds before i can open any application.
The tempreture is 41 idle and about 50 when loaded up. Any help with this small problem will be appreciated.
ill bet you have like 50 things loading up into your system tray.. get rid of them, why would you want stuff to load up that you might not use??
I don't have much stuff on the PC at the moment as i only installed the OS and MS Office. There only about 2-3 items in the startup menu.

I had the same problem on an old PII 233, the network was the problem, the network card wasn't set up properly and took ages to assign an IP, if you don't have any NICs this probably isn't your problem.
You don't need MS Office things at all in the start up folder.. It just wastes time, is the HDD spinning or LEDs flickering while it boots in windows?
Don't have network card installed on the machine. What happens is that at the desktop everythin goes quite for a while (even hard drive), then hard drive kicks in again to load whatever it is trying to load. Funny thing is that i don't see anything appearing on my systray once this done.

Thats weird I would try re-installing WinXP, if you've not got any important work on the machine...
Was thinking about doing that tonight. Thanks for your help.

I think it could be something to do with the bios especially the IDE devices.
Set the harddisk and everything else to LBA instead of auto so that the devices don't need to be scanned and checked everytime you start your machine
Thanks Stormwind, will try your recipe and see whether it works.
