I just started a EulerNet team.
Homepage is here (http://euler.free.fr/).
Here's what the project is all about:
In 1967, Lander and Parkin found a fifth power equal to FOUR fifth powers : 1445=1335+1105+845+275
They also found a sixth power equal to SEVEN sixth powers: 11416=10776+8946+7026+4746+4026+2346+746

We are trying to find a sixth power that is equal to SIX sixth powers.

When we will find a sixth power that is equal to six sixth powers, we will start searching a sixth power that is equal to five sixth powers !
I can't find a stats page but I think I already turned in a work unit. Overall the project seems kinda useless and I still can't tell if I'm doing anything or not, it's really confusing. However, signup and configuration are pretty simple.

*Edit: I forgot to mention:
It runs pretty well on any Pentium-like, but I strongly recommend that you have more than 32 megabytes (currently, Euler2000 needs 16 megabytes to compute (6,1,6) but when we will reach 2,000,000, it will surely need 24 megabytes or more).
It's pretty slow on Athlon.

About how long does a work unit take? I stay interested in a project if I see immediate results. :D

Also, how long will it be before DCVault updates to show the new team?

I just got an email saying it'll be in the vault maybe next update.
As far as the work units go, I have no idea. I can't even tell if this thing's doing anything. I guess I won't know anything for sure until it arrives at the vault.

I believe this (http://euler.free.fr/top.htm) is the stats page since it includes the stats even of the people with no time or results completed.

I'm gonna put it on my comp tonight so hopefully we'll race up rankings! :D

Yeah, but I can't find us on it anywhere. Last I checked it said I did 15,000 seconds on my client.

Still not in the vault and I still can't find our team name on the rankings page.:bang head

Yeah I was hoping to see some stats! I'm going to email the addy I found on the site, euler@free.fr, and hopefully get a response.

When I clicked the thing in the agent to do something(I don't remember what) it said there was some kind of connection error or something(I wasn't really paying attention) and it said that on 3 different machines so I don't know what that was about. Maybe I did something wrong. Hopefully it'll show up eventually though.

So I got a response and the news isn't good. :( Apparently the stats are updated only once a week!

I think I'm gonna stick it out on this project since there aren't too many people to pass.

EDIT: So I found us on the stats page (well actually just you). You're currently 650/701 and the team is 230/250. I wasn't on the stats page, so those rankings are all you. It was just updated today so I guess it'll be updated again next sunday.

We're now #190 w/ 3 users! I'll re-submit this one to the vault like I did with HC and hopefully it'll get added today!

*Edit: It's in de vault!

The stats were updated today and we're now #75

With another user we could be top 50 in no time!

sweet!

If i had another computer to get up (it'll be a while folks.. money is tight now)... i'd donate some time to this.

No prob. There aren't many active teams, so sno.lcn and myself are able to climb pretty steadily.

is there a linux client?

I didn't see one on the site, but I emailed the frenchman just to doublecheck.

I think I might go ahead and run this on my computer and move over SETI to the laptop.

for team name is it just overclockers.com ?

If the stats only update once a week I don't want to get it wrong.

Yep, overclockers.com.

Err, how do I make this work with HT?

Hyper-Threading? You want 2 instances? I haven't tried to run more than 1, so I don't know.

Perhaps you could run Ubero (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=454633) also. :)

Karbon

I run 2 instances but they dont each get 50% cpu. The first one gets the full 50%, but the second instance gets between 30-40% "while system idle process" gets the remaining %.

I tried changing stuff in the userinfo settings but that made both instances run on the same core.

Sorry, I don't have any ideas.

Perhaps sno.lcn will chime in a little later with some ideas, or you could try emailing the head dude (euler@free.fr). Let us know what you find out.

I have no idea, I just set it up on a rig and let it do it's thing, I didn't even look at the config or anything. But I'll get on it right away and see if I can find something.

*Edit: I made a thread here (http://www.team-ninja.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=39130), maybe someone over there will know.

*Edit: What did you set the priority on each instance to?

heh, I think this project along with some of the other math projects pretty silly, but bleh, why not? :) (Almost) anything for the team! ;)

To be honest, I don't understand the purpose behind most of these projects, but they sure do help the standings @ DC Vault :D

I'm very interested in math and will probably go on to major in engineering of some sort. That's why I'm more interested in the math projects than some of the other ones...even though I have no idea what the point of some of these are.

thanks for posting that sno.lcn

I just got home and noticed that it's different from before, lol.
Before: One of the instances runs fine, constant 50%. The other one uses less than 50%, remaining cpu % used by system idle process. I set the 2nd one to priority 4, then 9. I set both to 9 at the end. (That is what a program usually is set at)

Now: Both instances are at 25%, while system idle process is at 50%

Ozzer on the team-ninja forums figured it out.

Extract the rar to 2 different folders, and in each folder rename the exe's to something different. (euler2000-1.exe, euler2000-2.exe etc) Start up both of them, set up the config, and change the affinity for each in task manager (ctrl alt del)

Nice work finding that.

I wish I had enough computers to take advantage of all these loopholes... :bang head <starts looking for a job>

EDIT: Karbon, there isn't a linux client and no plans for one, unless you want to take care of it.

Ohio, did you know you're a few spots ahead of me? First ubero and now euler? I'm gonna have to quit playing with my farm so much and make it actually do some work for once.:D

I try not to get too excited, since I know its only temporary and you're kicking my as* in DIMES and 17orBust.

I just added a p4 1.8ghz to this as well, but it's only on about 12 hours a day. How does the service install thing work? I couldn't figure it out so I put a shortcut to the exe in startup and have it set to hide the icon, should work I guess.

I click on service install and nothing happens.

ohiosurfer

I've never used the service install, so I couldn't tell you.

That P4 1.8 should do great since the client hasn't been updated in almost 4 years!
