I am so mad i am just going to buy a new cpoy tomorrow at Best buy, my question. Do i just get M$ home again or window pro 64 ? any real difference ?

Get home. 64 bit has many driver issues along with game play issues. And home is cheaper and has basically the same things. Im on home right now and I do not notice any differences over it compared to my XP Pro Rig outside of it saying XP home on my start menu. If you want a 64 bit OS go with Vista whenever it comes out. It should be built around 64 bit tech unlike XP 64 which is just a bugged up remake of XP Pro.

Kind of depends. If I was in a business or doing some serious academic work, I would go with a Windows OS but otherwise, I would not spend another penny on OSes anymore and go Linux.

I think XP Home is fine. I have Pro and really haven't much of a difference except for EFS and domain support which I doubt you would need.

Do you have a 64-bit system?

PS - backup your cd key - type it in notepad, encrypt that file with pgp or truecrypt and attach it online and email the file to yourself.

That difference in price you could have had newegg add Next day shipping :) (although I always get my stuff in 2 days fron them with their standard shipping)

3 things

A. the differences between pro and home are not noticable in a 'home' environment.

2. Having experienced the last few Betas of Vista.. I wouldnt come close to that thing with my wallet. It will be bloated to hell (comes on a DVD after all, will have to check the final install size but I think its over 6gigs..) And if you want to get the full features it will cost you a bundle. Not to mention its not scheduled for release for quite some time and Id think you would want to use your computer before then :)

C. Im sure eventually we will all upgrade to it.. but frankly if you like the look of it you can pretty much get a 3rd party app to make XP look like Vista (read, OS X) so its not the best thing since sliced bread. Did have some neat improvements but not even close to enough things to warrant an upgrade/purchase.

my suggestion is to install linux today to play around with it, make sure hardware works together and whatnot; then call microsoft tomorrow and maybe they can check some receipts or whatever and get you a new key...save you some money.
