:D

Im running a Duron 750 (not OCed), Abit KT7 motherboard, SB16 Soundcard (ISA), Intel 10/100 Ethernet NIC, GeForce 2 MX200 32MB video card, TDK 12x10x32x CDRW, Sony floppy drive, 10GB Western Digital harddrive + 4GB Western Digital harddrive.

If i boot off the windows xp cd, it loads setup, loads all temp drivers, proceeds to say Starting Windows, in the bottom left corner, then completely freezes.

If i start setup within windows 98SE, ME, it loads temp files, reboots like normal. Analyzes computer hardware, i see a Windows XP loading screen, my screen goes black, yet i do not lose video signal, but my computer freezes.

If someone can please help me out with this problem I would be most greatfull! I have tryed everything i know. I have even tryed installing with just my video card, and 1 hard drive installed.

Thank you...

Welcome to the forums!

What file allocation system ore you using? Are you reformatting before the install? Unless you want to dual boot, I would suggest doing a long reformat in NTFS before installing XP.

I am currently using Fat32.....Alot of people have said try a LLF and then clean install XP....and that might take care of my problems. Is there a way to format my HD to NTFS before installing XP ?? Because I cant even get to that option in the XP setup before the computer freezes.

My old box had a K6-2 350, 192mb ram, ati all in wonder pro agp, sb16 isa, intel nic....and XP installed just fine for me, without a hitch, no matter what FAT i was using.

This is what makes me wonder.

have you try to format and install with a boot disk?

Possibly a video card problem. Maybe it would install if you put in the video card from your k6-2.

Someone had this problem too..

Things you can try ..

Re-creating the bootdisks..
Flash to your lastest bios.

As far as boot disks, I dont use any. Im booting straight off the cd....makes it alot easier that way.

I have yet to flash my bios. I will do that as soon as i get home. Dontcha love Abit....flash utility on thier MB cd.

If anyone else has some suggestions please let me know!

Thank you all
