So how are they? Has anyone tested them? Is the GeForce3 Ti 500 finally beaten?

It looks real good, on average there was about a 5-10% slower than a Ti500 difference except in Unreal where there were driver issues.....for 100 dollars less its definately the way to go, IT ALSO CRUSHED the Ti200(which is like 50 dollars cheaper, nothing to scoff at)

Anandtech:

Final Words
The question of "when?" should be on every single Radeon 8500 owners' mind. According to ATI these drivers will be made available as beta drivers on the date of publication (11/14/2001). The drivers are definitely a welcome present to Radeon 8500 owners and will not be made available to Radeon 7500 owners at this time simply because there was such a great rush to get these out that there wasn't enough time to tailor a similar driver set to the 7500.

The inclusion of SMOOTHVISION proves that the technology is superior to anything else we've seen out there on both a performance quality level. Unfortunately the drivers aren't flawless and there still are random bugs. While ATI has done their best to list any incompatible games or other scenarios in the driver release notes, they can't change the reality of not being able to test on every person's system. The drivers are still not up to par with NVIDIA's Detonator series from a stability standpoint but it's good to see ATI actively addressing their problems.

According to ATI we should begin to see a regular flow of beta drivers from ATI on a much more frequent basis (possibly every few weeks?).

In our original review of the card we said that the Radeon 8500 had potential, and we finally saw an example of just that.

Toms Hardware:
ATI's On The Offensive

ATI has launched new drivers today and taken an aggressive stand on some benchmarks for other products that it didn't, shall we say, agree with. Well, we can certainly say that ATI is making a concerted effort to remove some of the ambiguous feelings that people have about their drivers, and the company feels that the perceptions don't gel with reality.

In other words, we should expect ATI to be more aggressive on the driver front in its battles with Nvidia. Certainly, with the 8500, ATI is in the same ballpark, and in some cases ahead, of Nvidia on hardware. Drivers have been an issue, but we have been told, and convinced, that ATI has plans to really force the issue, and get back some of its reputation in this area.

We're testing the new drivers, and it looks like you'll have a field day with the performance boosts ATI has managed for the 8500 and 7500. It's going to be an all out driver war, and we're kind of happy about that. That's the way the graphics business should be, right?

My 3dmark 2001 in 98se before 7475
after 7637
w2k before 7230
after 7386
Not overclocked.

Plus, I didn't realize the dragon was flying down through some clouds before.

Even though I'm not a avid gamer I'm pleased with the decision to go with the 8500.

Well, after installing the new drivers and DX 8.1 I finally broke the 8000 point mark on 3Dmark2001. Here is the link

Madonion 3DMark2k1 comparison (http://gamershq.madonion.com/compare2k1.shtml?1996999)

Some people have had some complaints about DVD quality on the new drivers but I just ran through Final Fantasy :The spirits Within and it look sincredible.

When you go over 10'000 then tell us! A 2ghz amd wif ti200 @ the speeds of a ti500 would be needed to hit that.
Some guy did wif a 1.7t-bird and g3 @ 275/575.
( He got over 1000points more by tweaking something as well, i wish I knew what it was!)

Judging by the core frequency of 275MHz, I would guess that extra "something" is probably a voltage mod to the card and/or maybe peliter/water cooling.
