Is it wise to remove the pads on my CPU?
MY xp1700 is running at 120F and case is at 80F
I have reset my SK6 and ASII twice now and I get the same temp.
Installing this heat sink is like a no brainer, what could I be doing wrong?

Ill I can think of is that the core and the sink, don’t touch.
So are those pads in the way?
Should i use a heat pad?
anyway,
Ill be installing a galactorII tonight I hope it works better for me that this sk6 has.

thx

I don't have the pads on mine. At one time I had a watercooling set-up and with the pads on I ended up frying a 1.1T-Bird. So on my new T-Bird I took them off.

How do I get them off? Just pull at them.
Do I have to clean the adhesive off?
And if so with what?

They should stay on or you can break the core.

If you're just using a HSF, don't remove the pads.. They 'squish' down enough that they won't interfere with the HSF at all.. There is no point to removing them.. Also, if you do remove them, you might unintentionally crack the core when installing the HSF.

If you do decide to remove them, just use an xacto knife to lightly cut away at them from the bottom, you should be able to pick them up without leaving any glue on the cpu.

I really wouldn't recommend it...my friend sent me a banged up 1.4 AYHJA Y he thought was dead, but really wasn't(he had received a new one by the time he realized it) missing the 'top' two pads. In the process of tightening my watercooling it crunched the top of the core :(

Not worth the risk, they wouldn't put them there if they didn't do anything.
