View Full Version : WinXP doesn't turn off my computer
When I go to shut down Windows XP, it displays a message "it is now safe to turn off your computer" but it doesn't actually turn it off like Win98 did. How do I fix this?
(Sorry if this has already been answered, I ran a search but didn't find anything).

Maybe your Tada is corrupted. Try uninstalling it and reinstall...
"My What??????"
Tada.....it is the .wav file that 98 uses to close Windows. Perhaps it is the same with XP. I know, sounds like an unlikely fix but this is a very common problem and fix for 98.
It's not the wav file, I disabled sounds. I'm downloading Xteq Setup now. Hope it will work.

hmmmm...could it be that you disabled the sounds? I had the same problem with 98SE. Once I deleted and reinstalled tada.wav it worked fine...that is however, just one problem out godknowshowmany that would prevent one from shutting down.
I don't have XP...does MS have Windows Update ICON on the Start menu that downloads fixes such as the one that you need?
Actually I dont think its a conflict my computer shuts down by itself in Win 98 and not XP.. I believe that's the way its made.
Right click My Computer-->go to Properties-->Hardware-->Device Manager and click the Computer +box at the side. Does it list you as having an ACPI Compatible PC or Standard PC?
