Erm, iirc theyre all different materials mate
ive painted lexan(like poly carbonate ), and 'plexi' (possibly acrylic ?) with successes before, but thats using the type of paionts i use... and theyre not really the type the joe puplic would be able to use really.
grey scotchbrite and a Very high quality plastic primer are your best friends. Adheasion promoters are also availible in spray cans, although i dont use them, in the USA you should be able to get 'bulldog' iirc

If I'm not mistaken, Lexan/polycarbonate was used in RC cars. Hobby shops have the specfic paints needed for the polycarbonate bodies. They were a little expensive though.

yea, you right
i work part time in such a hobby shop lol !
the paitns are more angled towards flexibility than specificaly 'for that surface' but ive used my usualy 2 pack paints on RC shells with lots of successes.
if you have a spare puiece:
scuff the surface with a grey scotchbrite pad ( they looks like scouring pads) until the surface is totaly MATT, clean the surface with warm soapy water, let it dry, wipe over with a tack rag, then apply LIGHT ... i cant stress this enough LIGHT 'dust' coats of plastic primer. then a couple medium coats, lweaving aprox 20 minurtes between each coat. and scotchbriting between the mdeium coats.
the idea is to givwe the paint as much 'tooth' as possible, one heavy coat f paint would just peel and flake off.
the key to paitning is to never paitn a shiney surface. always use your scotchbrite pads inbetween coats for that perfect finish
