View Full Version : Peltier vs. Air Cool on Celery 600

I've got a Celery 600 at 1008, and it's on a Golden Orb right now. What I'm wondering is, how much better would my performance be if I got a peltier? This thing's pretty stable here and I'm happy with it at 1008 running on 1.95v, but if I can do better and lower the voltage, I'd be happier.
IT's not worth getting a peltier for many reasons..
1. Condensation
2. The cost of that peltier
3. You'll need mostly water cooling to get it working good
4. You've reach some what near the limits.

you could probly get a 100mhz or so if you get a vos32 or the like, thats a really sweet oc for that chip, and Yodums right, you are almost near the limit....

Peltiers aren't that evil. For the price, just check around ebay and stuff for a used one. I got a 50w one used for $3 off ebay. On a celeron you dont need water. As for condensation, nothing a simple gasket will fix. I had my celeron 433 peltiered, it didnt really OC higher, but I was able to get it below default voltage, and the only cooling was a big slot-1 sink and one fan. Got temps as low as 7C idle too, the most i hit was high 20s and i think 30 a few times. I dont think a peltier will get you that much farther, but they are fun if you can find a cheap used one go for it. I think if you find a 50w peltier and have a 300w PSU, you should be ok.

yteah, but hes using a gorb....a peltier (even 50watts) cannot be suficiently be cooled by a gorb...
Espically if the gorb is already at 1.gig its sorta going wack now and with the peltier it'll just kill the chip

Heh... yeah, I'm pretty pleased with it. Not bad at all for air cooled. Just wondering if there was a way I could lower Vcore a bit... if a good hs/fan/pelt comes along for a good price on ebay or something I'll go for it. But otherwise I'll just stay where I am.

how would you attach an image of either WCPUID or SiSoft Sandra on here??? I tried WCPUID but it just popped up as a link and it wouldn't work...
I've seen the peltier and fan combo some guy tried to sell like a 50-80 watt peltier with a fan that pushes 8cfm..
Thats just wrong..
And if you want to lower your voltages try burning in.. After awhile when its burnt in you'll prob lower it by .5 or something.

Yeah, that 8 cfm wouldn't work well on any peltier...
BTW: Here's the sandra image....

And the multimedia... notice it beats a P4 1.2 Ghz... though I've never heard of a P4 operating at that speed....

strange mines running at the same speed yours is and sandra shows it a 1.02 but cpu id does show mine running at 1015mhz

hmmm... that's odd... here's the readout on cpu id on mine...

Get a better heatsink and if you find you can't lower your vcore down I'd be very surprised....(I have a C2 600@1008 at 1.5v, defult is 1.7v)
With the stock heatsink the chip isn't stable even at 1.8v
(and really gorbs aren't much better than stock...)
But with my FOP-38 I can use 1.5v and it runs fine!...
(PS I did put an 80w pelt under my FOP-38 and althogh it ran cool....15-20c load I couldn't overclock it anymore :-(
Cheers

dang thing wont let me take a screen shot hmmmm
For a moment there when looking at the WPCPUID SS I saw your multiplier 9 and I thought you were on a P3 so I thought you had an unlocked cpu there.

Hehehe... I wish... then I wouldn't have to mess around with the FSB on this thing. I'd get around stuff like how it won't work at 100 FSB but will 102 FSB.
