Hi guys
I picked myself up a new 300gb hdd (Seagate ST3300622AS Barracuda 300GB SATA II 16 MB Cache)
I used Seagates disk wizard to set it up as its over 137gb, the install of XP pro went ok but after it re booted I got a BSOD with lots of ones and zeros. I have two other hdd in my setup, one of them is a 160 WD and when I used there wizard to open it up to the full 160 it went off with out a hitch,
I should all so point out that I didnt have the other two hdd hooked up when I was doing the new setup.
When I try XP 64 I can see the setup files being done, then it re boots and starts that part again ??
Ive hooked up one of my other hdd with XP 32 on it and used there "in window discwizard" but it show it as only 31.4GB, WHAT!!!!!

Any help you guys can give me on opening up the rest of the drive would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
Dean

PS Its in my sig's PC

well the first question is = are you 100% certain that it is a 300gb hard drive? and if you are ask the person/company that you got it from for a replace so that you can make sure it is not a faulty hard drive.

Yep Im sure its a 300 I think its to do with that whole BIOS and Operating System limitation but then again it could just be faulty.
But b4 I take it back I want to make sure Im not just missing something ie: if I do x,y,z I can then see the whole drive.

The three things that immediately come to mind:
1) Make sure the SATA cables aren't being run next to power lines - they're highly susceptible to interference
2) Check for a BIOS update for your board - but before flashing...
3) Clock the machine back down to stock - as much as PCI locks are supposed to save us from drive corruption in the face of overclocking, if data gets corrupted on the processor or in memory, that corruption flows through to everything in the system.

With disk wizard check to see if there is any unpartitioned space.

Thanks Snugglebear and Quailane

As to the unpartitioned space, its says there is none.

Thinking back I didnt clock the processor down (man I know better than that :bang head ) will give that ago now.

I all so e-mailed Seagate, and good on them they got back to me and they have given me something to try as well.

Will let you know how I get on.

Thanks again
Dean

Clocking the processor back to 3.2 meant windows would load but XP with SP2, XP 64 and Vista all showed it as 31.4 or so. And thats with zeroing between installs ??
The tool Seagate sent me didnt help, So I have taken it back told them what I had tried, they told me thats what they would have done and just gave me a new one (Good on them  )
Any how thanks for the help and heres is the new one ;)

Glad you got it sorted out. Obviously, if this one worked without any issues, there was something wrong with the other one.

Check the jumper settings on the Hard drive. I hade a similar prob with a Hitachi drive. I had the jumper set to limit the drive to 32GB. Sounds real similar to what is happening to you.

@ citronym, Thanks man.

@ soulfly1448, I read about that but the jumpers are sealed on this model so I couldnt see what they were set to.

Any how thanks again guys
Dean.
