Soon to reinstall Linux.. But I want just a good walk through... I really don't know whats a better interface Gnome or the other one believe its KDE.

I thought it was pretty easy... But if you still want a walk throught you might try the linux website....

i personally like kde better, but thats just one opinion :)

The choice between gnome and kde is just a preference.

Neither one is clearly SUPERIOR or does something magnificently better for your computer.

As for an installation walk through, you might want to read this guide (http://www.linux.com/learn/install/) at Linux.com.

There was actually an install walkthrough ON my Mandrake 8.1 cd. It wasnt detailed though. ;)

I'm not really worried about the guide but just network settings ..

I'm sure Mandrake provides are frontend for that stuff. You just need to do dhcp for your cablemodem, right?

If it is like 7.0 that I installed in late 99 or early 2000 it detects and configures that stuff pretty automatically during installation. It may prompt you once or twice to ask if you want to do that, but over all I don't recall it being hard at all. It was pretty simple.

Call me nutty, but why not just buy the box set for 30 bucks? It gives you lots of information in nice easy-to-read books.

Bah I hate reading books!

I just downloaded Mandrake 8.1 or currently in the process.

We'll see how it is from there.

there wasnt a problem at all when i installed 8.1, net worked on the first try.:)
