Hello everybody, this is my first post on the OCforums. I recently purchased 2gigs of DDR400 to run in Dual channel, then upon further research and lots of frustration later I found out that you cant run dual channel on a socket 754mobo. I am trying to get the best performance out of my computer, as I play a lot of BF2. I have benchmarked my computer with numerous different configs and the results have stumped me. When I put the 2gigs of ram in, I have to underclock them to 166mhz to be stable, and have the computer boot up. I have better mark scores with 1gig of ram at 400mhz, than 2gigs of ram at 166mhz. Which makes sense because 166x2 = 332mhz, but would having slower ram at 2gigs help me with gameplay? Or make it worse? Is it possible to change the timing so I can run the 2gigs at 400mhz? /w or w/o overclocking?

I am just trying to find the absolute optimal settings that I can manage with stock hardware and cooling.

Specs:

Asus K8V SE Deluxe mobo (bios 100.007)
AMD Athlon 64 XP 2800+ (1.8ghz, sometimes OC'd to 1.98ghz)
2x 1gig of DDR400 kingston Ram
Geforce 7800GS AGP 256mb
Soundblaster live platnium 5.1
Enermax 350w power supply (Needs upgrade, but sufficient for now)

3dmark03 scores

1gig of ram at 400ghz, 1.8ghz processor - 11706 - http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=4834062

2gigs of ram at 166ghz, 1.8ghz processor - 11375 - http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=4834050

1gig of ram at 400ghz, 1.98ghz OC processor - Unable to benchmark, kept crashing and freezing at windows.

2gigs of ram at 166ghz, 1.98ghz OC processor - 11645 - http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=4834036
2gigs of ram at 100ghz, 1.98ghz OC - 11409 - http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=4836729

Edit: I guess I can only publish one project at a time, I have published the highest score. Thanks again guys!

I've never seen a 2100+ Athlon64. I thought the slowest they ran at was 2800+. 1.8Ghz = 2800+ Athlon64 S754.

If you have an earlier CPU, the memory controller was very picky with double sided memory. You can try putting them in different slots, or updating the motherboard BIOS.

Ya thats what I meant, it was like 3 in the morning when I made that post lol. I have updated the bios to the very latests, tried different slots, everything I could think of. I've been working on it for about 3 days now, doing tons of research and everything. I just cant quite figure it out, it only wants to work at 166mhz, if I put it at 400mhz with 2gigs in it will freeze and crash. But 1gig at 400mhz works fine.

Everything is all set on auto, I did a little bit of research and read the FAQ, but I still dont know what Im doing.
