As you can tell by my sig. I have a voodoo, and they get HOT! I recently went to radio shack (I know, I dont have a credit card, yet ;) ) and got an old pentium pro HSF that cools processors up to 200mhz, its got some slowwww fan on it that pished about 5 CFM, if I were to put a 20CFM fan on there, could I take it higher than 190? or is this card maxed out? the back still get to the point of burn ur finger, but not like it used to on the default speed with the oem sink. BTW, when I took off the stock sink, the glue on the bottom was THICK and brown, like it had been burnt!

Radio Shack never did have good cooling stuff,
as for it still being hot on the back of the card,
did you use high quality arctic silver epoxy?
You could always get one to put on the back of the
card! (sandwitch style)
I do not know if you can take it higher that 190 with
a bigger fan, but tell me the size fan it has on the Heatsink,
40MM,50MM,60MM...
Do you have any pics?
Can you afford a taller fan, how tall is the fan you have
on the heatsink now, 5MM,8MM,10MM,12MM,20MM...
As for the thermal compound being brown there are
thermadl compounds that are brown, I doubt you
burnt the thermal compound, However I know very
well how hot those 3DFX GPUs get!

i doubt you will go any furver then 190, it is very good for a voodoo and if you are worride about the temps i would gett better air flow in you case, i makes a huge difference on my geforce 2 mx

I have good airflow, even tho its just a 92mm and an 80mm, but they are fast! The fan on the sink is a 60x60x5, not that big, and I have great temps for running a voodoo at 190! Theyre lower than the stock HSF at 150MHZ! Also, I got alotta room to spare, but not alotta money.

I agree that 190 is very high for that card but,
I would reccomend replacing the fan with a,
60MMx60MMx38MM 59CFM DELTA! - Very Noisy
But If you dont want noise atleast some better fan,
If you deside to change tell us what fan you are getting
before hand.

- The life will be increased & you might be able to oc more

Also,
If you use one of the tall high rpm fans, strap them
down tight with plastic cable straps to protect the GPU from
falling off!

The fastest delta 60mm fan is the 44cfm focused flow, there is no 59cfm delta fan in 60mm.

I was thinking more like 25CFM, like what I got on my cpu. BTW, the fan on my voodoo is a 60x60x5 not 15. I got a 60x60x~20 on my proc...

sounds like the ya-tech 60x60x25 27cfm fan, I run one myself, decent airflow without the manic scream of a delta.

Oups,
The Delta I was talking about is only 50.15 (in reality)
60x60x38 8000RPM 50.15CFM Delta Fan

I thought it was a bit big!
I would edit your post that says "60x60x15"

Stick a few blowers under the card and a fan (mounted on a BRACKET) over the card, this will help in a big way. ( Have a fan above the card either blowin in or out to cool the back...

Hey KLowD, did you see any BIG difference on you video card performance?? I want to do my video, what you got PCI or AGP??
What did you use to overclock that? How you measur temp on the video card??
Thanks, and sorrey for all this ????

Its cool, I like answering questions. Yea, I got a huge boost in performance. I can do AA in Quake3 and still get 85FPS at 640x480 with everything else set on high. I got PCI (the only thing good about my pci is where it is, I broke off all of the clips that close up the case and restrict airflow and put some fans in the back and it helps heep my card cool.) I used the overclocking panel enabler I downloaded from voodoofiles.com. I measure my temp with my finger, if I can hold it on there for a few seconds, then im ok, if not, then I need better cooling. It used to run hot even on the windows dosktop, its "luke hot" now.

You Should be able to keep your finger on for
any length of time...

it never was like that, like in my first post, the glue on the bottom of the stock hsf was burnt. and everyone always says voodoos are known for their heat. when I build my new rig, supposedly 3dfx is comming back, prolly with the heat too, ill be watercooling the card then.

3DFX is GONE! http://www.ytec.d2g.com/emoticons/cry.gif Never To Return Again!!! http://www.ytec.d2g.com/emoticons/cry2.gif

really? someone told me that 3dfx was comming back exactly one year after they "left", which would be 12-15-01. I forgot where I heard this, but, oh well....

YMAN

??? Maybe, But I thought they were gone for good ???
We will soon see...

I hope so, I really like the picture quality of voodoo's, they overclock nicely too.~30FPS is good enough for me!

YMAN

They are good...I personally would like 60FPS from my 14 :(
(TNT2M64)

But still I nolonger play games much anymore so...
Its fine I guess.

Thanks KLowD. One more thing, what's FPS??? And when I install Overclocker thing first time it was fine, then I had to format my drive, and after that, I can't install that thing ever. It's saying that it can't detect my Voodoo Tools, but I have them Install, and I try to uninstall them and install, and it's just don't want to see them. What you think is the problem? Is it my Win 2000??

FPS is frames per second, or how many frames your videocard can render in one second. I think I ran into this before, my mobo has built in video, and to get the voodoo tools to work, I had to go into the control panel and disable the other video card because it wouldnt let the tools come up. Also, I had to disable it every time I restarted, got pretty annoying. If you have built in video or another card, try disabling it. If not, then I dont know what to do becase ive never heard of that happening before. Also, it sounds like you had to "install" something, it should just be a 60kb program that changed the registry and shows the overclocking panel. Here is a link, http://www.geocities.com/klowd9x/overclock.zip , rename the .zip to .exe because geocities is ghetto fabulous and wont let you upload any executables.

Make sure you have the 2000 drivers and if tis a nvidia card and you are using coolbits they will have to be betas, best ar 22.80's.
And also a quick note v-sync limits the amount of fps per socnd your video card can do! So if your refrash rate is 60hz (argh!) you won't be able to go over 60fps!!! Or thats what i've heard....

Yes, thats true too, V-sinc is weird, disable it in games for higher framerate and enable when watching movies (Direct X) becuase it causes screen tearing (Really annoying!!!!). Also, if you go to the run dialog box and type in dxdiag and push ok, it will bring up the direct x diagnostic box, and the last tab, troubleshooting, has an override button, if you are getting low refresh rates in DX games, set this to ~85, or your most preferred rate, be carefun tho, some monitors will not support really high rates like 120 and could cause damage, but most new monitors have protection, or certain ranges that they will operate in, if something is over the range, the monitor gives you an error box or shuts down. I dont know why I told all of this information, I figured it might be useful for something :D .

I got my new fan, 60x60x25, 3500 rpm...ehh, good enough. The back still gets hot, and ghetto me mis measured the size of the sink, its a 50x50  but, I just broke out my dremel and cut the fan to fit, it still goes over the sides, but, it also cools the ram!
