Whiny Hard Drive, Dirty Bearing, Fixable?

Hey my buddy ordered a bunch of stuff off the net, and along with it he got a 20gig IBM 60gxp
i have the 41gig model and its almost totally silent, his on the other hand is so loud and annoying i can't stand it when im at his house
obviously he is quite annoyed too because its like twice as bad as a delta, well maybe not twice but its crazy, so hgih pitched and relentless
anyway i think its because the bearing in the drive is dirty, at least thats what some sites have said, i dont really know, but if thats the case can any local computer store repair or clean it without any loss of data? or even clean it at all just so it doesnt sound like a... loud obnoxious dirty bearing?

As far as getting it cleaned... I think you can only get them cleaned by the big boys... But about the noise Im not real sure... The 2 that youve compared are different right? Well Ive seen some that were by the same maker and different models be huge diff in sound...
