Sony makes good monitors. I have a couple that are about 6 years old that look great still. And a year old one that I love. The only thing I'd replace it with would be a plasma screen mon.

I use an AOC Spectrum 9Glrs, it gives good refresh rates. Used it for nearly a year, no problems.

i use the sony trinitron E400 found here (http://www.ita.sel.sony.com/products/displays/soho/cpde400.html) and i absolutely love it, awsome picture (stopped my eyes from hurting) and awsome refresh rates..also the price listed on their site is way overpriced... :)

Even though it's been said: "Sony" - I'll say it again "Sony."

Maximum PC was doing a review of the '3 ultimate game systems' and when reviewing monitors made this comment:
When it comes to monitors there are two types. Sony and Everything else.

^_^ Take their word for it. There *are* some Sony OEMs (Primarily IBM's line IIRC. IBM also repacks the tube in a black casing if you like to save the pain of painting a monitor if you've got a black box) - but Sony is the king of the hill.

Sony makes the most crisp monitor you can buy in retail stores (Such as Best Buy). However, you dont have to pay an exorbanent ammount of money just for that little 4-letter name tag. You can do what I did:

Buy KDS!

KDS uses Sony Trinotron FD monitor tubes, but they are DIRT CHEAP. Three years ago, I bought a KDS AV-7T. It's a 17" Trinitron monitor, .24ag, with an antiglare glass. $239 at the time. They're down to a mere $200 now.

You could get the newest, latest monitor, using the Sony FD Trinitron tube (mine, being 3 years old, uses the technology of the time, the Trinitron tume, but FD Trinitron) from KDS. Go to www.kdsusa.com to find a local retailer, then purchase a KDS monitor, and enjoy a better gaming experiance for minimal cost. =)

Edit: After looking their site over, I see they only make one FD Trinitron monitor. What a shame. It's 17", which is quite adequate, but if you have your heart set on 19" or larger, check out Philips for monitors. They also make very good monitors, albeit more expensive.

I'm using a AOC Spectrum 7Glr and its real nice. AOC new monitors are really good, I definately love the price/performance of em.

I also have a Sony Trinitron 17'' and I like it, but it's a little dark. The AOC is just as crisp.

Overall I give the nod to AOC 7glr.

i was plannin to get one of them as well, but after realize it doesn't support high resolution, i bought mine current 19 inch Hitachi CM771, i know itz a old model, but dat was the whole point of it, i got the last one, the cheapest one also, and best of all, itz flat.

FD Trinitron monitors are as flat as you can get without the distortion associated with completely flat monitors.

If high-res is your thang, the Philips monitor I mentioned, model name 109B20, which can be seen here (http://www.magnavox.com/global/b2c/ce/catalog/product.jhtml?divId=0&groupId=CONNECTIONS&catId=PCMONITORS&subCatId=BUSINESSSERPCMONITORS&productId=109B20_74), is probably the best money-to-quality-to-resolution ratio one can muster.

Trinitron or Diamondtron Monitors will do you well. Iiyama is probably the best out there with Sony not too far behind. Iiyamas just happen to be a little more pricey. Viewsonic usually comes in extremely well in the price/look category.

I got me a NEC Multisync E750.

Yes, i know that sounds bad, but I got it 3 years old for 80 bucks, and it's sharper than my Samsung 2 year old monitor.

i'll second the KDS monitor vote.

i use a 21" KDS monitor that cost me less than any 19" sony (and some 17" sony's). i work with 3d graphics, photoshop and tv video. i honestly dont see enough difference between my sony monitors and my kds ones to make it worth the price jump.

I dunno how good it is, but either officemax, or office depot has a 17" mon with a .25mm dp for around $127.00 U.S.

I just wish I could find out who made my monitor. It is a "Touch", and it is fine for my tastes...I rarely play with anything higher than 800x600.
I really liked my Viewsonic 6E, but at 15" it was too small, and I gave it to my neice, when I got this 17"er
Someday I'll try to find a driver for it...I bought it used for less than a C-note, 2 yrs ago, and for a cheap mon, it works good, I have played on O.P.M.'s and I always liked mine better, but the O.P.M.'s (other peoples machines) never had a sony either.
