I'm trying to complete my water cooling system and can't. I can't find the top for my water block (LOL). The water block is made out of one P-200 HS w/ side made out of cut credit cards, glued and insulated with white silicone. Now I gotta make a top for that block, I need something hard that won't break under the pressure the bolt that will hold the block to the CPU will put on it.
Any ideas? I'm out of them. PLZ Help
Thanx ahead.
make the whole block out to credit cards! ??? I would redo it 100% copper.

Yes, either copper or aluminum, or at least 1/16" Lexan. Credit cards are far too thin, that's downright dangerous!
Lexan can be had for very cheap at home improvment stores (You should stick with Lexan brand, as opposed to the green-colored generic equivalent). Aluminum and copper blocks or sheets are more difficult to come by, but they can be had as well.
You dont ALWAYS have to settle for what's in the house, you need the proper supplies to be safe and effective, of which credit cards ( ) are neither.
I am just posting this as a warning. I have just finished some trials on this kind of water block. Enclosed a AMD K6 heatsink in 2mm acrylic sheet. I used a special twin pack epoxy rated for use up to 180C. It was great. Passed all the leak tests. Passed a simulated heat test by immersing it in 60C water. I then ran one more test to see what would happen if the pump failed. I used a hot surface (about 100C) and left it on there for a few minutes. The epoxy joints were fine. The heatsink expanded and caused all the joints between the epoxy and the metal to fracture and I now have nice minature watering can for my plants 'cause its sure not going anywhere near my mobo.

OK, thx for the warnings guys.
I won't put this thing on then.... But my main problem is that I can't find any copper or aluminum here where I live... I don't & my parents don't have a credit card, so I can't order any thing online :(... My Bong is already has been built and tested. But been colecting dust for the past 3 months when I was trying to make/get a water block... I'm really disapointed. My temp don't really allow me to go higher than what I have now...... Any one got an idia for a water block wich would be safe and easy to build/get matirials?

Credit cards? You must be mad! I would just buy a simple waterblock for around $35, Its not worth making your own stuff if it leaks then that like a $1000 of PC down the drain.
Given the lack of good materials, here's what I would try.
Start by measuring your heatsink. Then go to a plumbing supply place and find pipe that is just a bit smaller than the sink. It doesn't really matter what the pipe is made of, as long as it will withstand pressurized hot water. Here in the states I would get a PVC cap, but there you may have to go with a bit of pipe and a piece to close the end off. Basically you're looking to make a short piece of pipe with one closed end and a diameter a touch less than your heatsink.
Once you've got that, you have to figure out how to cut your heatsink to match and then attach it. If your pipe is metal you should be able to weld or sweat solder it. If the pip is plastic, then I would ask the guys at the shop how to join metal to it. If you explain what you want, they should have some ideas.
After that it would just be putting the fittings in.
Whatever you do, be sure to test it thoroughly before putting it to work in your computer.
Best of luck,
nihili

Most certainly, Lexan is an acrylic sheet of transparent super-strong plastic. It's FAR tougher then glass, it cannot be broken. It cannot be dented, it's difficult to melt when it's thick enough. The only thing that can hurt it is scoring (Thats where you take a sharp object, and repetadly scrape a cut over and over in the same spot).
How well does Lexan transfer heat?

correction lexan can be broken but it is very difficult

Sorry, had to be said though:eek:

Sorry, had to be said though:eek: My parents have nothing to do with who I help. I am a little older than you think. I have corresponded with many people overseas, etc. about helping out with getting materials. Now if you need some Plutonium, weapons grade, don't call me. If you need a waterblock or chunk of metal, I am willing to help!
sorry, i think i have been misunderstood in what I said, i was quoting "The Coolest" when I said what I did, and then suggesting that he should not have used his credit cards to make a water block, thus having the difficulty of ordering a new water block overseas
:(
Sorry, my sad sense of humour

(overseas shipping on nuclear items slightly higher!)

I was about to say use the credit cards to buy a waterblock instead!
Anyway why don't you buy one? It gives you more piece of mind...:burn:  :burn:

Maybe that's what I'll finally do, but 35$ in USA <> 35$ here in Israel... You gotta multiply that number by 4.25 to get the real cost in nis. (shekels)...
And that's not a small amount of money, consider I don't work, and my parents wont gimme any more money for comp :(:(:(

Bad luck but don't risk it, if your in my position whereas if u bust it then thats it i would buy it, but then again i was just about to but i didn't bother as i still think its to risky.
Good Luck.

Surely you have a plumbing supply store, Right? A copper end cap can make for a decent waterblock till you can afford better. Get a 2" end cap (or two) Lap the bottom. Solder the other one to it (may require you to cut off part of it. Drill holes for your barbs (pick these up at the plumbing store... can be made out of regular pipe if needed) and solder them on. All you need is a small blow torch and some solder. It can be done on a stove top as well but is a bit unsafe..........TRUST me (ouch). This method only took me up 1 degree C from my previous cross drilled design. Nt bad for VERY cheap.

I do suggest one thing. Find some work, doesnt matter what it is as long as it is legal & something you can do partime, & I garantee you will be really proud that you can purchase something from your own hard work. I don't mean to put you down but quite the opposite, I like to work to be able to buy what I want & it is one the best feelings in the world.
