View Full Version : Memory and F@H
Ok so I have an NF7-S and a 2500+ chilling in my closet, but no ram for it. I'm gonna make it into a new multimedia rig in a month or two, but I need memory for it. Obviously I'm gonna have it folding, so I had a couple questions before I buy the RAM (gonna be 1gig).
1. Will running dual channel help it fold faster?
2. How much will tighter timings help with folding?
I might just get a cheap 1gig stick if not, otherwise I could spend a bit more for a better 2x512mb kit.

It will not make much of a diff at all...

NF-7/2500.
Those things you mention will help you achive a better O/C, therefore,
better Folding machine.
You'll need a good memory. NF-7's had a problem with OCZ memory, but there is a work around if you even want to mess with it. If not, just get a different brand.

dual channel? Running that will up your memory bandwidth and help with certain WU's only. You *may* see a boost of 5-10 ppd in Dual Channel. Tighter memory timings DO Help. Chasr did some good research on this and even though my memory is fuzzy, i believe tighter timings can help out about 10-15 ppd.
oh ok...well i might as well get some decent stuff then. A good 2x512 kit of PC3200 can be had for well under $100

Big packets blow chunks on machines with only 256MB of ram. That is all. Carry on. -nikhsub1
