I want to build a gaming rig, but don't know what to do operating system wise. Vista = DX 10 (Halo 2) XP = More RAM/Processing power to myself. Any help?

Decide depending on the hardware you want, not the OS right now. E.g.Do you want Intel or AMD? Do you want a certain videocard etc. Then decide about your buying time.

Right now, you can't run Vista anyways. While the beta is out, it's not really suited for gaming right now.

No, def not.

Go with your wallet and the hardware that fits by it.

Buy a great rig now, except for the video card. Buy a DX10 card when they come out. Then use Vista. If you want, dual boot XP and Vista to help the transfer process.

You're going to wait a while for Vista too, as all portents emanating from Redmond, WA, indicate that the product is behind schedule and probably won't make Jan 2007.

(Please note that difficulties with big OS projects are not restricted to Microsoft. Apple spent ten years and $10 billion developing OS X, and started over four times over the course of the development. It was originally supposed to be OS 8, then Copland, then OS 9, then Gershwin, and finally we got OS X. Or something like that; my Mac OS history is somewhat lacking.)
