Hello. I am getting a DVD Burner today. I happen to have Nero 7 Ultra edition on my pc(If that helps at all). The only other dvd player in my home other than the PC is my Xbox. I have some video files on my pc that I would like to be able to play on my Xbox. What is the easiest way to burn dvds that will play on an Xbox?

Are you DL a DVD and burning it or copying from another DVD?
You should be able to burn just a normal DVD and have it work... I've never tried a burned DVD on an Xbox but I assume it would work.

The reason I ask is because I have heard some people say that it is hard to get burned DVDs to run on an Xbox. I have no doubt I could do it for a regular DVD player, but I was wondering if there is anything special I need to do to get it to work on the Xbox. I have video files on my pc that I would be burning to DVD.

Try making the DVD you are burning "region-free"
I use DVD-Shrink and there is an option to burn a dvd with certain region settings.

Time to bump a bit. I have some questions about DVD shrink. I have managed to get it to make a backup of a current DVD I already have and it works in the Xbox perfectly. My question is, suppose I have a non dvd type video file. Just an mpeg or something like that. Will DVD shrink allow me to put it on a DVD and play it on the Xbox?

You'll have to convert the non-dvd file to a DVD by using something like WinAvi or AVI to DVD.. Just google "your file type" to "dvd" and you should be able to find a converter that will help.

Have some issues. When using AVI2DVD, I try to encode a file. It goes through a stage where there is a big black DOS type box. After it gets past this, it comes up with an error saying that it couldnt locate decompressor or something like that.
Edit: here is a picture.

Make sure you have the right codecs. Use Gspot to locate the right codecs.
Use TMPGENC it's slow but can't be beat.

What do I look for when I open gspot and open the video file with it?
TempGenc is not working with the file either. I think the file itself may be the problem. I do have the Combined Community Codec pack installed, so codecs should not be a problem.
Edit 2: It seems like it was not the file. I tried another mpeg layer three file and it has the same problem. What can I do?
go to afterdawn and find "ffdshow". download and install that and then ur app should have no problem with it. if u do plan on using tmpgenc then go to its environmental settings, vfapi tab...then set the directshow filter to highest priority and that should do it. also, if u have just an mpeg file and it happens to already be in a dvd-compatible format u could try opening it in tmpgenc dvd author...another very handy app. u can also use winavi or dvdtoavi to spit out a dvd mpeg2 from ur file and then author it to dvd using tmpgenc dvd author...hope i didnt confuse ya :) i do try to avoid tmpgenc for converting coz of what the other guy said..its slowwww. but ffdshow is safe i been using it for a couple years now and it will make most apps recognize (decompress or whatever) just about any video file.
