Low CS:S frames w/good computer!

I dunno I was just playing and experiencing some crazy frame rates.. from 40 -> 130 depending on the action. It's retarded. I'm playing, all of a sudden 35 fps. I cant deal with that! 1280x960, 4xAA, 8xAF, full shadows, simple reflections, HDR off, highest textures. Basically everything max except simple reflections and no HDR.

Just dont understand. I have a demo recorded of me playing with like 20fps on Assault. If someone wants it, email me.. slawek dot bielawa at gmail dot com and I will send it to you. Maybe you can help me figure out why it's so bloody slow! HL2 seems to go like 50-80 fps @ 1024 everything max.

System Specs:
P4 3.2 @ 4.0 (Prescott 640) (fsb 1000mhz / ddr2 667mhz)
Asus P5ND2-SLI
BFG 7800 GT OC overclocked to 470/1.2ghz (stock is 425/1.05)
Corsair TwinX DDR2 5400 2x512, 667mhz 4-4-4-12-16-2T
Scythe Ninja keeping it cool at like less than 40 celcius.
Antec TruePower2 550W

My system is clean. Nothing useless running the the background, no virus scanners or anything. I dont get it. I've been reading other people have the same thing, high end computers and cards with **** poor frames.

I will set my frequency on my card back down to stock, however, it makes no sense when in 3dmark06 I'm getting scores of 4050, with over 1750 for HDR and SM2.0.

Doing a STRESS TEST I get like 119 fps average w/everything max and 1280x960.

I ran the HL2 benchmark program, and @ 1024x768 everything max I get 85.5 fps average. Lost Coast w/HDR I got in the 60's.

It seems like whenever there's action on the screen my computer craps out. But how does that explain performance in 3dmark and the video stress test?

If I contact Valve, they're gonna write back stupid **** like "make sure you disable virus scanners" and it will take 2 months to get anywhere with them. I've been through this with them before, absolutely went nowhere. It's down to the community with similar issues.

prolly find better help at www.steampowered.com forum in css section. more ppl will answer, cause well its css forums :) i dont see why you get 20fps with that system i was getting a good 60 fps on high with a p4 2.4 n 6800le when i had my intel system

uninstall/clean drivers then reinstall? only thing i can think of ATM

I set heapsize to 524288 and set AFFINITY to CPU 0 and unchecked CPU 1 under steam.exe and it fixed everything for some reason.
