Have more than a few stability issues with Vista, I must have reinstalled about 10 times. I tried the obvious like uninstalling hardware and installing at stock speeds and then ran Disk Error checking. It seems Vista was happy to install to a disk with a corrupt file system. The quick format it uses was not getting rid of the corrupt file system, so I used XP off my dual boot and reformated using a full format. It might be worth checking the integrity of a disk before installing Vista.
If you are using a dual boot system with Windows XP and Vista it is worth running Windows XP and defraging your Vista drive or partition. I have had no problems doing this and have seen significant speed reductions in both boot time and Windows Vista accessing files. The inbuilt derfragmenter in Vista seems to leave a lot of fragmented files and file organisation seems to be very poor.
