A YEAR of A-O-HELL? I'd pay them a grand NOT to have AOL...

Yea, not really worth it, because you need 12 months of AOL, which sucks the big one. Even if you don't have internet already, and you live in the city, alls you need is a wireless card to get someone elses signal:santa:

Horrible deal, AOL SUCKS!
You don't have to sign up for the year of AOL, in fact, I do believe you would end up paying just as much as you save by signing up for it.
Anyway, $500 for that isn't actually a bad deal at all. Toshiba makes great laptops and this would be perfect for a college kid or something like that. Heck, if you spend what you saved you could put in a larger capacity hard drive and upgrade to 1GB of RAM you could get one nice laptop on the cheap.
Actually, you get 200$ off the price however you then *have* to pay for 12 months of AOL at 25.90$ a month. Just don't do it.

1.7GHz Celerony?
That will not really play any good games.... :(

^^ Neither will the X200M graphics, but what do you expect from a $500 laptop?

$25.90 * 12 = $310.80 :-/
So actually you pay 110.80 more than you would if you just paid the $200 up front and maybe even more important... You don't have to deal with the worst company in the world harassing you. Just my 2cents.

just sign up for it it using your debit/credit card then cancel the card and get a new one
well thats what i would do but i have crap credit already
or pay cash then you dont have to worry about it, let them waste money sending you bills every month for a service you dont use
or pay cash then you dont have to worry about it, let them waste money sending you bills every month for a service you dont use
Then they send it to collections, and the collections activity shows on your credit reports and reduces your credit score. Bad plan. Best plan is to just pay the $200 instead and forget AOL altogether.
I like Toshiba laptops, but happen to know this line and they're bottom end. The screen's okay, but just okay. You get what you pay for.

I wonder if you could get one of those prepaid visa gift cards, then have them put that in as the credit card number, and of course some bogus personal info? Then go spend the rest of the card after it approves in the checkout and happily watch aol get screwed.

A NO-NO. AOL will probably run you more than the $200.
If it was a normal deal, signing up and then cancelling would be fine. However this deal and the one that was at my store for awhile requires you to pay for 12 months. Jipping out of the agreement wouldn't be the wisest thing to do.
I'm amazed by some of the things said here.

Yea, destroying your credit to save $200 on a laptop is not a good idea.

I got all excited until I read the AOL thing, damn. I've seen some HPs and Compaqs for $399 every now and then.

bad credit and old debts will eventually come to bite you in the ass. a debt collector will legally do they what they call "levying" which is what happens when you suddenly notice $1000 missing from your checking account. =(

around here.. people that have credit that's that bad, have bounced a few checks and never paid a bank back wich = never getting a checking account again
The only assets/savings you could have would be a safty deposit box with bars of presious metals
The AOL thing, uhh.. not so good.. :( It wouldnt be so bad if you could sell the contract with AOL at a discount.. like what $18/mouth  :p

That, and the fact that there's that many cheap people out there. I should probably stop myself there.
