I just got Qwest DSL, and the modem they sent me has a wireless gateway, ethernet, and USB ports on it. I am looking to disable the router in the modem, so that I can use my own. I would much rather use the router that I currently have, mostly because I know how to use it. But if I use my router and have it set the way that I want it, and have another one between that and where I am trying to connect to, could I not run into problems with connecting? I do use an FTP program to keep up a website, and some things like that. If anyone might know how I can disable the built in router to use my own, I would be forever in appreciation.

don't think you can. however, just forward everything to your router, and all SHOULD be well

Thanks for the idea Tollhouse. Any idea how I might go about forwarding everything to my router?? I haven't set it up yet because I am worried that something with my connection might get messed up.

Check if that router+modem has a pass through or bridge mode and set that.

If you have the Actiontec 1520 which is the modem that I believe Qwest uses, directions for setting up bridge mode are at http://www.qwest.com/dsl/customerservice/Actiontec1520/Actiontec_1520_Transparent_Bridging__IS_.pdf

Actually the modem that I have is the Actiontec GT701-wg, and I just found docs for the modem, but all I could find was something about disabling NAT, Dynamic routing, and DMZ. I am not really sure which one of these I would be best using, and I don't want to mess with anything until I can be sure that what I do is not going to screw anything up.
