so i decided to upgrade my daily use pc and i'm going the "cheap" ish way. currently i got a sempron 2600 and i'm switching to a celleron i picked it up on ebay for 37 bucks :) i of course need a new mobo, but my question is ... how does the prescott celleron fair? i have had a couple cellerons in the past (my dad has a 2.6 i think and i got a old HP 600mhz that i use as a backup server) and ones in the past. i'm also using this pc as a DVR, net, im etc. etc. etc... also does it get as hot as prescotts do? i'm thinking of getting a xp-90 so i think i'll have it covered pretty much.

The Celeron D does pretty good. It's a Prescott, so it does run a bit warm, but not as hot as the P-4 version because it has less cache. The Xp-90 will be perfect. I'm assuming this is a socket LGA775 processor? What motherboard to get depends on whether you want DDR vs. DDR2 RAM and AGP vs. PCI-E vid card.

The Abit IC7 or Asus P4C800 are probably the best mobos, but they are sort of getting hard to find. If you want a decent O/C, make sure you find a mobo with an Intel chipset.

i settled on a AOpen AX4SG-UN as my motherboard

edit : it has the 865 chipset
