I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but has anyone here RMA'd their harddrive to seagate? If so, how long did it take? I think mine's taking a little longer than expected[2 weeks], but I'm not sure because it's my first time RMAing something...

no this is good what did you rma and why and how long did it take... i just had a seagate drive go bad on me... actually 2 of them my uncle said they were bad but i decided to give them a try. they worked for a little but poof no workie. mabey i can get these 7200.7's updated to 7200.8's

i heard the 7200.7's had problems....jut heard that from a computer guru friend....

i bought the 7200.10 series with NCQ and 16MB of cache....they run quiet and cool...of course, it does help to have active cooling over them (any drive)

I believe you're right. All Seagate HDDs I have show degrading Read Error Rate and Seek Error Rate SMART values.

What's up with this?:mad: :bang head

darn!....i just hope the point 10 series hangs in there...they have a newer technology in them.

i havnt had any probs with the .8 series and above.... but i just had 1 of the .7 seriers go out on me (my uncle said he thought one of the drives was bad) turned out it was... and the other one is on its way. hopfully i can talk to someone at seagate to see about gettin me some SATA barracuda 7200.8 or new series 80GB replacements.

Does Seagate offer cross-shipping for RMAs? I have always used WD drives, and even though I've had a few of them die over the years, I really like that WD will immediately send me a replacement drive and won't even charge my credit card unless they don't receive the defective drive within 14 days or so. Also, everything can be processed on-line and it is very simple.

my point "10" series are quiet and run very cool...i just got them about 3-4 weeks ago...AND...they are wickedly:) fast...they beat out my SATA 1 Raptors in raid 0 and in single drive environment...now...access time is better, obviously, with the Raptors...8 ms for the raptors and 12 ms for the seagates is like faster than you could blink your eye lids...there is really no difference other than a numerical difference.

hmm god damnit... seagate says my drives are "out of warrenty" but im pretty sure they have a 5 yr warrenty and i kno for a fact that these drives havnt been out for 5 yrs.... heck was anything SATA out 5 yrs ago?

How was that information communicated to you: a person? a website? email? There was a complaint about this very issue in this month's Maximum PC magazine: a reader thought he had a 5-year warranty, but was told that he only had a 1-year warranty by a Seagate rep. When Maximum PC contacted Seagate, they said that the warranty should in fact be 5 years and that they would take care of the customer. Seems pretty shady to me if it takes that amount of effort to get them to honor your warranty. Obviously, they haven't changed their practices if they're telling you that your drives are out of warranty. All Seagate drives SHOULD have a 5-year warranty...

ahhh haaa there you would be wrong.... alll seagate drives purchaced AFTER june 2004 have a 5 yr warrenty... drives b 4 that only have a 1 yr warrenty. I kno the drives given to me were purchased after june 2004 but on their site the way they validate your warrenty is through the drive model and SN so they dont kno when you purchased the actual drive... i just emaild them about this and im sure they will do somthing good about it.

I've just had two drives, each about a year old die on me - both 7200.8's, one 250gb and one 300gb. The 300gb took over two weeks to RMA, even with me emailing every day! Finally got it replaced with a 400gb drive, good/bad thing was they replaced an IDE drive with a SATA one! Muppets. I can't use it in my external case anymore, but will use it in my new pc.

Wont be buying seagate again for a while...

all i need is the proof of purchase to be before jun 2004 and im good... but i dont think my uncle is gonna keep that ****... i have had pretty good luck with seagates but this 5 yr warrenty crap starting with drives 2 yrs old is messed... should be if it was manufactured 5 yrs ago or newer we will take it and give you a new one... cus both of these drives were manufactured in 2003 46th week 3rd day, but i have no clue when they were bought.

You don't need proof of purchase for seagate.. Somehow they know when you bough it, so as long as you're still in the alloted time period you should begood.

i know maxtor at one time would give the RMA caller 3 months grace that was added on to the manufacture date if you could not prove when you bought the drive....

there is something wrong!...you should have your replacement by now...i suggest a phone call to the RMA department.
