Will this psu have enough to power this rig:
opty 165
2x opticals
2x hdd
4x 512 ram
1x floppy
and this is the big concern: a x1800xt (512mb)

It should be ok.

PSU calculator (http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculator.jsp)
I calculate ~350W base needed. That PSU you linked has 29A on the 12V which should be sufficient. However, it's really at the verge of powering that rig. I would suggest a beefier PSU personally, but that is a good price for a Fortron.

It should be fine, but you would be close to your limit. I would plug it in and find out.

Online PSU calculators are horribly inaccurate and overstate everything. For a good source of what typical setups actually consume in power, one should read Silentpcreview.
Anyway, that system uses perhaps 150W at full load, depending on the graphics card, so it should be ok.

SilentPCreview is horribly behind on the times. Online PSU calcs are overprotective, but that's within reason. The one at Xtreme is the best I've found and is updated quite often.
Given your sig, and your prior history on this board, I'm going to dismiss any other comment.

Well, I dismissed your post after the first sentence so I guess we're even.

ok, enough with the ****ing match here fellas...
Thanks for the informative posts, I knew that most of the online psu calculators were overly protective (ie. you need a more potent psu!!). Good to see that nobody has flatly stated 'no go'. Have yet to purchase the card, but the psu is in the current rig in sig.

Yeah, sorry about the threadcrap on that one. Lost my bearing there for a bit.

^ That really wasn't needed. :p
The 400 watter SHOULD be fine, but like the others have stated, it would be really close, if not too close.
I would upgrade to again said, a beefier PSU, that way you have a bit more headroom for that *just in case* moment, as well as room to upgrade later on without worrying about the PSU.
I looked at the Next in line Fotron on Neweggs site, and it's pretty much double the cost of the one you posted, but it's also 100w more than current.
I have also heard of no complaints from the people on here with this unit.

As long as I had it, I'd try it. There's no reason at all this PSU can't power the rig in question - 29A combined is more than enough, and 12v1 has plenty of current capacity for the X1800 and all stated drives. 12v2 will not be stressed significantly by an A64, which will leave 12v1 lots of headroom to get to its 18A rated limit.
It'll work ;)

Thanks Wolf.

Frontier Days... I haven't been there in years. Used to climb all over the tractors on display when I was a kid. Forget the midway, I wanted farm machinery to play on :D
I work in Shaunavon for my father at the United Church - nice town, but Eastend's nicer :p
Back on topic, good luck with the PSU.

Well, got the card, and all seems well so far. Ran 3dm05 (9135 pts) and hl2 lost coast stress test (96.7 fps average). We will see...
