does linux generally accept ide controller cards?

right now my motherboard is an abit bx6 2 so i get ata 33 but i would like to use ata 66 because my drives support it. and to do this i have to buy a controller card.

I think that Promise's ATA-66/100 PCI Controller cards are supported in up to date Linux's. Finally! Please, don't quote me on this one, 'cause I'm not 100% certain.

Ya, your promise card should work.

If you get a promise raid, though, you probably won't be able to do the raid thing.
