View Full Version : Retarded Move
I have an ASUS SLI motherboard, and I was using the AI booster utility that comes with it. Me being a ****** accidently went from 3.0 to 3.4 in one jump. Now my comp barely loads up. I can't get far enough into the bios without it freezing. Is there any other way to reset the overclock? Please.. i can't afford another CPU lol. ****.
Yeah that happens all the time when people try to achieve their highest overclock. Consult your motherboard manual for the CMOS jumper. Once you find it, all you need to do is move the jumper from one position to the other, and back to the original. Doing so returns the bios to default settings. All the info you need should be in the manual.
Hehe, I thought so, just wanted to make sure. Thanks man! Appreciated.
Stupid me :bang head
If i do much overclocking without vcore, with Asus I just remove a dimm stick (PSU turned off) and put it back in, then turn it back on. (I have overclocked ram, so it resets). If you don't, remove the CPU and install it again, then it reconginzes as a new CPU and go back to stock speeds.
Using the jumper to clear the CMOS is the easiest way. Also, removing the CMOS battery for a few minutes will clear the BIOS too.

Holding the Insert key during bootup also helps load up defaults. Some mobo's don't support this, but its worth a shot before trying the cmos jumper.

Flip the CMOS battery upside down, and move the CLRRTC jumper... leave for 10 - 20 secs, flip the battery back to normal and move the jumper into the normal position.
Methods worked for me for years =P

I thought that at least a few people wired up a switch for the CMOS jumper
Well.. I guess that would depend on how flakey the board is :p

On my board if you pull out the coin battery on it and wait 1 minute then put it back in it resets, and that's if I mess up both BIOSes lol. (I love dual-BIOS)

flippen the bat around is not advised. bad things can happen. Just remove it for 30 or so secs.
and the "coin bat" is the cmos battery, there is only one. (its actually a 3v watch battery)
And some boards, gigabyte especially come with two bios chips instead of one :D

The jumper should work just fine.. the removal of the battery should be the last thing you would want to do (other then pulling hardware, I wouldn't advise that at all)
