The time has come when ram has become unnecessarily too big....

but notice the picture shows that it is a little bit taller than a typical DIMM. the dubble decker seen above doesn't exist

it us not uneeded, there are many servers that could use that easily.

Greetings to all from the world of specialty RAM (that's me)! That part does indeed exist. However, that is a 2GB module, part of the 8GB kit.

These modules are usually extremely small run or made to order parts do to their limited demand. Hence the $4000 price tag.

Here ya go! Quad Rank 4GB DDR modules:

The world of memory is much larger than most think.

useless...

On PCs, it won't work b/c software and hardware restraint

Server or workstation, they have enough slots that they don't need

8G module

I've got a couple fat SQL servers at work that could use about 4 of those and not even blink.

It's not an 8GB module. It's a 2GB module, part of a kit. Not to mention it's not even PC compliant!

I have 4 sticks of Kingston PC 3200/512, 2 G total, the most my board can handle.

This is obviously for database servers and such, those saying its useless dont know what they're talking about  its NOT for running your battlefield 2 its doing SERIOUS work, yes computers do perform serious tasks now and then :)

This will work in a PC, just not a standard windows or linux (standard devs) enviroments.

wow...this is crazy...a stick of RAM that is 2gb even if it is part of a kit that is so much memory. What sort of server program could use this much? even if it could use it and more then wouldn't it be better to just build the program and make it less of a hog...?

Very cool find though

PC=Personal Computer, which is not what these are for. They are in fact for Sun servers, which are not PCs

OK, I was more refering to x86. And many other formats/versions.

BUT BUT I SERIOUSLY could use that for playing Pong on my gaming rig, I would have better FPS just due to the lack of a bottleneck while playing PONG and browsing the web(porn) while watching a DVD (porn) and sorting pics (porn)

That was mildly funny until the end. Now I feel the need to clean myself. Thank you.

See my above post about Quad Rank 4GB Modules.

High end ECC Registered DDR2 4GB with Chipkill are available for, I think my vendor said about $4000 each. That's more than my whole computer cost.

2GB DIMMs for all (DDR2 users at least)! (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820221031)

Unbuffered and non-ECC. I have no idea how well that would overclock but it is a 2GB DIMM every DDR2 system can use.

You think that's expensive, check out this 8GB kit of DDR2-667 FBDIMM's for a Woodcrest based server that Crucial has (http://www.crucial.com/store/partspecs.Asp?IMODULE=CT2KIT51272AF667#info).

I wonder if it includes free shipping? :D
