Hmm how would i go about taking off the hsf and ramsyncs that are on my hercules gf3... i know theres some kind of epoxy or heatpad... (shudder) under them and i really want to lap them and put on some as2 epoxy, and im a bit leary of chipping the core or somthing stupid like that (and well i should be i paid over 400 for this thing). Ive heard of freezing the card and also using plastic knives but i honestly dont know how to saftly go about doing this so any help at all would be cool.

some people put there video cards in a anti static bag and put in the freezer for a while then put a screwdriver between the card and the heatsink and lightly twisted(make sure you have something between the screwdriver and the card so it doesnt get damaged). what i did was(and i dont recommend this) just put a screwdriver between it a twisted fast and it flew across the room:eek:.
but ya the best way is to put it into the freezer and it should come off with little effort, if it takes to much streght then you know there is something wrong.
hope this helps:D
btw the video card i did this on was a ragefur pro so it wouldnt be very costly to replace, but a gf3 is so proceed with caution.

you will only need to put the video card in the freezer for a couple of minutes, you can then 'prise' off the heatsink by placing a flat headed screwdriver under it and leavering it off.
however do not attempt this if you do not have anything to repace the missing heatsink. (if you are using an orb lapp it first, i recommend a ols socket7 or 370 heatsink though or an icicle 1U heatsink)
as for the ram sinks, they only have a small ammount of glue on them so i would just reapply them with some artic silver epoxy

Depending on the material, some people have had good luck also not only with putting it in the freezer, but with getting it good and warm first. Run 3DMark on loop mode for a while or play a grafics intesive game for a while, then quit, shutdown, pull out the card, and lightly twist and pull... Often times, whatever glue was used doesn't hold as well when good and warm.
Hope this helps
