i just bought some new crucial ram so i can see if i can push this thing further.
but when i tried 140mhz fsb (next one up) the computer wouldnt boot :( i tried raising the vcore to 1.85 (i have it at 1.8 right now so its stable at 933mhz) but still no boot.
is there anything i can do? i wanna reach 1ghz :)
well not to stay there, lol i just wanna see if i can get there with this processor. i dont think the alpha can cool any higher of a vcore (MAYBE 1.85v but i doubt it, my temps are already at 38c load)
but is there anything i can do?
(btw i dont have much expereince in advanced motherboard settings, lol)

Looks like you've reached the limit.. People only get to 1gig usually with a better motherboard ie: CUSL2.

have you tried 1 stick of ram to see if that is your weak link? would not hurt to have 2 case fans [minimum] and a nice HSF on your northbridge. If you could get your temps down you could try 1.9CV and see if that would do the trick as long as ram is not what is holding you back if it is try cas 3 settings in bios and see if that helps. If you let your PC cool and then tried to boot at 1.9CV just to see if it would boot then shut it off, this would help to find out weather the weak link is ram or CV. One trick for getting temps down is to make sure your rear fan blows cool air in this will supply the CPU HSF with cooler air then the warmer air it may be sucking now [this is as long as your fan on HS is blowing down if its blowing up and away from CPU then rear fan blowing out is fine.]

the P3125 should be enough for 1.85 voltage.....

Mine runs 27C idle, 40 full load and I have mine at 1.9... I'd say 39 is acceptable at 1.8 to shoot for 1.85 or 1.9.

I'm with Outhouse on this one. Your load temps are real nice. Try CAS-3 and/or pull one stick of RAM out. Put a 40mm fan on your northbridge mobo heatsink. Raise the voltage up to 1.9v and see what happens. Watch your temps, I would not go any higher than low 40's. I have an exceptional cC0 P-III 700 @ 1050 MHz that I've ran at 1.9v since last spring. Load temps rarely exceed 40 degrees with a GlobalWin FOP/80mm fan and other cooling mods. Even if you can't go any higher, 933 is still a nice overclock, but sounds like it'll go a little higher.

ok, ive tried multiple bus/pci speeds, heres the results

133/33.33 = Booted <--- current settings
120/40 = Booted
124/41.33 = Failed
133/44 = Failed
124/31 = Booted
103/34.33 = Booted
83.3/41.65 = Booted
115/38.33 = Booted
105/35 = Booted
140/35 = Failed
150/36 = Failed

all these i tried @ 1.9v and i tried the ram at 2-2-2 and 3-3-3. the ram timings didnt matter. same results at both. and the voltage didnt matter, same results at 1.8v
and i tried it with just one stick of ram in and with 2 in, same results.

any ideas? cuz im confused by these results, the computer SHOULD go 140mhz bus.

Edit: i already have a fan/heatsink on my northbridge, and i have a heatsink on the clock generator. and i have 2 case fans. (a 92mm one in the front and an 80mm one in the back

Ok, I'm stumped. Maybe you're maxed out with that CPU.

BigRed, I'm pretty much in the same boat. I've got a slot1 700@980. I ran it at 966, 138 fsb, for a month or so never getting it to go higher. I started taking a closer look at temps as I thought the occasional jump to 48c was a little too much since Im using the Alpha P3125. Decided to flip the fans over so that they blow onto the h/s and then gave a 1/2 turn to each of the screws holding the h/s to the chip. Nice little drop. Haven't gone over 44c since. Guess I was a bit too cautious when putting it together. I just didn't want to damage the core, ya know? Anyway, here's the best part, I can run it at 980 now. Settings are 1.85/3.8, with mem at 2-2-2. I just read somewhere else here today to try and have one rear fan blow towards the cpu. Works for me as I've got to 80mm fans exhausting. I'm going to try that tonight after work. Hopefully it'll help. I would love to get this thing stable at 1ghz.
Good luck!

I never got my 800 to go past the 133 FSB setting with that same board, no matter how much I pumped up the voltage. I went past my usual personal limit 1.85V to 1.95V. just to see if it would go with enough voltage. It never even booted. So you may have hit the limit for that particular chip as the others have mentioned. But you still are at a third more than the rated speed of the chip. Still a nice OC.

I believe your maxed.
