Well I have been having some difficulties with my verizon dsl, and the fact I know nothing about networking and all this junk does not help, so I come here for help :p

Basically the problem is I've been getting disconnected a lot (at least 10 times in the last hour!) I've done some looking around and it seems like a packet being sent to me called PADT is causing the disconnects, I'll post a recent log of the modem. The modem is connected directly to the computer (no router) and is a Westell 6100. If anyone has any ideas please help this is driving me crazy :(

Most likely an ISP problem, have you tried calling them for support?

PPPoE active discovery termination packet is that it means,

all i could find online was this

Mysterious Disconnection Problems

Q: The adsl connection with my ISP is constantly being disconnected when we are using our DI-604 router with two Macs. Hook up either computer directly to the modem and there is no problem. The router’s log shows a "PADT tag" followed by a disconnection. The router will sometimes reconnect right away and at other times after several attempts. The disconnections make listening to streaming media impossible and play havoc with some secure websites. Any idea what is going on and how to deal with it? Tech support at both my ISP and D-Link has been responding to my requests for help but so far with no success. Googling the problem identifies lots of other folks with the same problem but I haven’t been able to find a clear solution!

PADT stands for PPPoE Active Discovery Terminate. It’s a request to terminate from your ISP. There are numerous reasons your ISP could be sending this packet, but for some reason it seems to happen a lot with D-Link routers. First check to make sure there isn’t some configuration error in the router. Do not configure BOTH the router for PPPoE and have dialing software running on your Macs. If you are using dialing software remove it and enable PPPoE on the router. Next make sure the password and other settings are accurate. Finally turn on "connect on demand"and set the idle timeout to "0" - those are the best settings to ensure an always on connection. You should also check to see that you have the latest firmware for your router and update if you do not. If you have a 2.4GHz phone or other devices, try removing them from the area to see if that fixes things.
