View Full Version : 60c too hot?

When I run Prime95 for 24 hours, the temp of the processor in VIA MONITOR reads 60c MAX. When idle, the processor goes down to 47c. I dont have anymore money for cooling, the 10k rpm fan and the SK-6 ran me close to $90 CAN. I bought this processor for $69.99 CAN ($40.00 US) so I really dont care about life expectancy unless of course you think its gonna die soon? Ive posted on Hardocp but they suck and I love the OC form so I decided to join.

holy crappers,

Am I the only one in the forums period to hit 1.8GHz with the 1.0 Birdys?

sweetness.

Welcome,
If you dont get lockups and it seems you do not, and don't care about the cpu lifespan then I dont see a problem.
Just don't be surprised when it goes to cpu heaven.
Nice overclock :)

Welcome to our slice of addiction. :)

I agree with Placid. You're just on the edge of the long term damage temp using the insocket thermistor. Otherwise you're fine for a while. :)

Damn! An 80% overclock!

That temp doesn't seem too high considering the voltage you're running through it. Good job!

and Welcome to the forums.

wha wha wha 1gigahertz athlon at 1.8????

dun mean to be a doubting tom, but your not pullin our legs, are u? ;)

if not i apoligize...and congratualate u on that overclock...WOW....don't over-stress that chip for the love of god...ITS MAGIC!!! :D

thats about 160+ watts comin off that mofo!!!!

Yes its actually @ 1.8GHz and stable with HotCPUTester 2 Lite 24 hours without a crash. Yea, the history of this chip was amazing.

Anyway, my first attempt to overclock the processor without raising the fsb gave me a 1466MHz @ the defualt voltage. Then at 1.85V (My motherboards max) the chip would run at 1550MHz!

At 1.95V, I got the chip to 1610MHz, not to shabby, upped .05 more with no success. Then, 2.1V lead me to 1680MHz, And now maxing the fsb on my board, I got that chip right to 1800Mhz on da nose.

I bet you anything, the motherboard is holding me back, cause the fsb maxes at 150MHz, anything more and the chipset is the problem.

crap man, that SK-6 hearsink gets so hot after an hour of hot cpu, that you could fry eggs on it.

INCREDIBLE OC, well done, I would get some cooling though as you don't wanna destroy that mean machine.:burn:

YOu wanna hear about a HOT heatsink??? Well, my sisters non OCed Athlon 950 was running like 63* for four days with nary a problem till I downloaded sandra and checked it. Yep, went into the bios and sure enough, 63*.

Still got a burned fingertip and three desensitized ones after deciding to 'manually ascertain the temp thereof'

With the removal of a sidepanel and the back of the hutch part it was cooped up in, its like 42ish and begging for OC.

Welcome to the forums- AND DON"T BURN THAT CHIP UP:D

Its got an extra dose of the Magic Smoke that makes cpu's work, keep it inside.

Seriously: that is a sweet oc- you might want to slow it down a bit until you can get more cooling going!

Welcome to the Forums

I'd love to see how that benchmarks :D

Good overclock, wish my 1.4 would do that. :(

Wif watercooling you could hit 2000! and ln2 well wat about 2500?

you need to write an article for overclockers.com.

If you are at 47C idle than you should be able to lower that. Though given your vcore I don't know how much. I think using air the lowest I can get a 1.4 tbird at 1.85V is 27C. Try using ducted air from outside of the case to cool your cpu, or go with a watercooling rig. couple of tubes and a big bucket and your in biz.

could you genetically clone that cpu? perhaps amd could introduce some of the dna into one of the newer processors and give us some 3.0 material?

do you see any data corruption with that overclock? does your plextor burn any faster? it would be cool if you were able to burn a cd in 2 minutes.

also check out MBM for temp and voltage monitoring, and then link that with MBM Log, which will give you recorded info on temp and fan ,and voltage history. pretty cool, and handy when trying to tune your cooling.

You can't increase the speed of your cd-rw, it does what it says on the tin! or box in this case...:D

so with a slower CPU you can burn CDs in the same amount of time?

and if you can't overclock a CDRW then why does my Plextor have that little fan?:D

btw, never believe the speeds on the box. my plextor says 40x cd reading, my dvd says 48x. the plextor is faster.

That's one hell of a O/C!!!!! Now that is a stepping worth looking for!!! I'm with RED Hot Machine, throw us some benchies & I'll buy you a beer to say thanks.... never mind waiting for them tests here ya go:beer:

The speeds are theoretical maximums, most CD-RWs seem to have better tracking than DVD drives though - my DVD drive won't run safedisked games at all but my CD-RW works fine.
