Which one the hercules ti200 mem @ 400 guarrented to 500 or a 8500? Ti200 = £206 / 8500 = £220.
I want high performace and stability.
I'm got a epox 8kha+ 768mb crucial ddr mem, sb live, dvd/cdrw , and I want a good oc!

Well, if you want performance...AND...stability, then I would suggest the Ti200. If your willing to deal with some driver hicups and some lingering questions about ATI's Driver team reliability, then the 8500 is your best bet.

If you play *a lot* of games, I would suggest the Ti200. If your looking for a great card for the money, then the 8500 probably offers more for the cost.

Both cards truely have their advantages. If you want the most stable, usable, playable with almost anything card, then the Ti200....for now, probably offers the most functionality.

my thing has always been to wait, i mean why pay 200 pounds now when 2 months later you can pay half that and also, in 2 months you will see if the ATI driver team has been keeping up, and if they have there is no doubt that the 8500 is the better card, but if you must have one right npow, with no driver iussues, get a Ti200, you may regret your decision later though if ATI gets drivers in shape....

Says it all , if the Ti200 was meant to compete against the 8500 they would have used it, obviously it does not, perhaps in a price relation it does but you are getting way more bang for your buck with the 8500.

driver development will clear the whole issue shortly......

a Ti200 is not in the same league as an 8500, and with the new drivers FINALLY out for the 8500, it would be stupid not to buy the 8500. The 8500's direct comparison is the GeForce3 Ti500.

But in 6 months the ATI 8500 will be totally outshined by the Nvidia card.

What are you talking about, it will be king for alot longr than you think....

then another bigger and faster ATI card will be out to replace nvidia at again better price for performance as usual.

you go ahead and spend more money than is needed on your nvidia card LOL, I will deal with a couple of driver issues for $100 less

I find it funny and a bit disheartening that we overclockers feel you need to post disclaimer before we give our Humble opinions on which board to get!

Good call though cause as usual it has turned into a pi.ssing contest:)

Hopefully Nick_cw found his answer though!

That is very true, you don't compare the Radeon 8500 to a Geforce Ti200....it stomps the Geforce Ti200 and i think it even woops the regular Geforce 3's. The Radeon 8500 isn't that far behind the Geforce 3 Ti500, even with the current not totally finished drivers. Not to mention the 85k has superb 2d quality, great DVD playback, hydravision (dual monitor support), and a bunch of other good stuff.:)

www.ati.com, click on tech support on the left side, then click drivers, then say what your operating system is and specify that you are using Radeon 8500 and the Beta driver is 3286 and that is the one for XP....for Win98 use the 7206 drivers....

Maximus Nickus

I thought the new one wasn't a beta

funnyperson1
11-18-01, 12:58 PM
it is not a beta, but it is not an ATI recommended driver because Microsoft hasnt approved it yet...

cheers, and i think you are talking about the 8800? which is supposed to be more for workstations and 3D developing....of course ATI cant recommend a driver until it is approved by microcrotch

I don't know how you can really compare a Ti200 to a Radeon 8500... there's a huge price difference there. I think that obviously the Radeon has a little more potential but the driver issue is definitely a problem. ATi could learn a lesson or three from nVidia about drivers....

I wouldn't compare the Ti200 with the 8500 in performance either. However, I wouldn't compare the Ti200 with the 7500 either. I'd say the 7500 is about the performance of the geForce2Ti or Ultra. As far as your question I think abb1 stated my answer already. I'm just wondering if anyone's tried the new drivers from ATI?
