I have a 775 530 prescott 3.0 , it runns stable @ 3.525 40c 1.4v 235 FSB C19 Nvidia chipset. Thermaltake tower 112. I've had this chip to 3.7 1.55v but went unstable dont want to put any more v to it without proper cooling. How limited am I with the C19 chipset? Motherboard is NI8-SLi.
I have the option in front of me, to get a 550 think its a (J) 3.4. I do want more speed but if im not going to hit 4 then i dont think that there is any point to bother.
You would need something more than air to get that over 4 safely and stabily most likely.

how far had anyone pushed a 550? on air.
I would say you could probably get around 3.8 with low ambients and a good chip/board, assuming you have a really good HSF
I got my 3.4 650 to 4.2 durring the winter when my ambients were low, 4.0 durring the summer.

I have a 506 folding stable at 4.3ghz with 1.55v. Im using a big typhoon and several quiet case fans. My folding temps are about 45 degrees. I am also in a basement, so Ambient is probably 68F. I really need to get a thermometer to find out what the exact temp is down here.
I know the 640 is a Prescott, if the 550 is a northwood...cant remember if they are or not...but if it is you will get more out of the prescott, assuming good cooling, ram etc.

5xx = prescott w/ 1mb l2
6xx = prescott w/ 2mb l2

on air, in a room with 80F+ amb?
But with the 630 @3.525 ill get an extra mb of l2 and emt64 would'nt that alone be as good as a 550 oc'ed to 3.8???

I would take the 630. EMT64 is only good if you have 64bit OS installed.

yeah thats what i thought. So we will see how fast it will go tonight.
:)
I have a 551 sitting in a box (haven't got around to selling it) that i swapped out for a 930 - which is much better at folding with similar OC and power consumption.
I had the 551 running at 4.1 on air folding (ie FULL load)... I think it was with a sonic tower with 2 fans since that is what is currently on the 930. Mobo is a p5wd2-p.
Temps were a problem running in a case, got a bit better caseless but ran mid 60's. With summer ambients I suspect I would have had to lower the OC by now.
/edit you mobo/chipset may limit your OC vs an intel chipset mobo.

If he popped in a 930, Its a 775
His mobo is a better overclocker though.
And selling is done in the classifieds section :) (100 posts + and any of these emails on file ISP, .gov, .edu or millitary)

Well in a round about way i was asking if he was going to post it in the "classifieds" and if he were to post said "CPU" in the "classifieds" then how much would he want for said "CPU"?
Easy there rule master. :)

Yes, on air with an XP 120, but not at 80f, more like 72
