View Full Version : What about a OCZ Dominator with Delta 44CFM fan and an added 5mm copper plate???

Hi guys and gals,

what do you think???
I want to add a 5mm copper plate to the base of my OCZ Dominator that is already equipped with the Delta 60x60x38mm 44CFM fan. I'll epoxy the copper plate to the base using arctic silver adhesive and lapping both the Dominator and the copperplate before that!

What effect will it have on the temps. I'll use the cooler on a Celeron 1200, that features the integrated heat spreader.

My gut feeling would be that you may get less performance that way. Adding the 5mm of copper lengthens the path heat must transfer, and you have one additional interface (from the plate to the HSF) for the heat to go through.

My suggestion would be to try it without epoxy first so that you can get a feeling of how it may perform. This way, if things don't work out you can take the plate off with a lot less hassles.

It's highly unlikely to make a difference, as mentioned there's an extra thermal interface, this will more than offset any potential gains (and they're be small) from a copper hotplate.

you would probably crack your nice new cpu and not have any temp decrease at all, unless you plan to use a peltier

Thanks guys,

I think I'll try it without epoxy first(just using arctic silver) and if it works, I'll let you know and I'll epoxy the thing together.
