I have an Asus Z71V laptop, and the power plug is shot. (Same problem seen here: http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=464655) I'm good enough with a soldering iron to replace the plug, but not in the tight quarters it's in. I need a way to get the motherboard on this notebook out of the case, and all I've been able to find on Google was one of those basic upgrading heres-how-to-open-the-RAM-slot guides. Anyone know how to really rip this thing apart? Thanks in advance.

generally I have bad luck finding those guides. So I Figure it out myself. Take out every screw you find and label everything. Just takes some trial and error (error being, unable to find that last screw thats holding it all together, not as in breaking something)
oh man, you'll never find one. i tried making one, i gave up on that one, too.
Take a piece of cardboard, draw out where all the screws on the back cover are. punch little holes, push the screws into the cardboard holes.
have another piece ready for the body screws, theres lots of them.
your going to have to flex the entire bottom plastic tray to get the mobo out, note the headphone/usb/etc that stick out thru the plastic.
If something doesnt want to move, its because its screwed in.
be careful removing the LCD screen plug, its very delicate.
take out the BATTERY
take off the hdd cover, main removable section, and remove the keyboard.
take out the optical drive, pop off the screens plastic hinge covers
take out the keyboard
remove the main body screws around the edges. theres a few more hidden inside, i cant describe where. make sure to put these in your cardboard screw-holder. I diddnt have one of these on my last build - i've taken this stupid thing apart maybe 20 times. dont forget the one where the optical drive goes (or is it two?)
start unhooking ribbon cables - whenever you come across one, remove it. Trust me, they all fall back into place. Take not how many there were, dont want to miss one.
remove the cpu HSF
make sure to get the 4-6 screws under the battery compartment. Note that theres a few down there that hold in the touchpad, those are fine to leave in.
The body, if course, is held together with devilish plastic tabs. theres no good place to start, here. get a small screwdriver, carefully pry it apart. a good starting place is hard to find, maybe try near the pcmcia port?
If it comes to a part where it doesnt want to pry, look for screws ;)
remove the hex screws in the vga port! this is needed to remove the thin metal shield thingy you'll see when you get the body apart. (it can wait till then)
thats about the best i can do. if you have questions, pm me or catch me on aim... im not an easy guy to get ahold of lately.
Most importantly, be careful. theres alot of things in here that are easy to break. DONT take my little guide as a lifesaver, some steps may need to be moved around, others added, some changed.
Feel free to print it up and add in ones as you go ( it will help put it back together, like where you always- ALWAYS- forget the screws in the body under the lcd.... untill after the lcd is installed.)
and then you could post it up, so the next person that has this problem will have more help than you, and way more than me ;)
glad someone found my post. By the way, after you did this youll have that feeling that you could make some good money buying ones with broken plugs and fixing them. Dont even bother. NO ONE sells them with broken plugs. i guess your average joe throws em out or something... wanna sell me yours? ;)
