View Full Version : Cases, where to buy
If I need to get a new case to get better airflow (see post below "Help with airflow") what kind and where to get would anyone suggest. I would really like to get just the case as I do not need the psu.

I have not bought from here yet but I think I am getting my case from.

Someone here gave me their link. I emailed the company last night and they already got back to me. I wanted to get a credit for leaving out their PSU. They told me I would get $10 bucks credit. I like the tool less case, the slide out mobo tray and it seems to be simple.
There is not a molded floppy drive!!! :) I hate floppy drives!!

The only thing I dont like about getting a case offline is the unreal shipping cost, especially if the vendor only ships Fedex. That will run you an extra 20 bucks on top of what else you are getting.
So make sure you get the right case at the right price....
how much is 69 uk dollars in us dollars?

It's around £1.50 = $1 (that's 1.5 UK pounds to one US dollar). Plus intl. shipping, import duty, custom handling charges and tax.
So that's about $105 for the case, plus shipping at $20-30 plus various charges, probably $150-$180 all told.
It would be the shipping from the UK that would worry me. All kidding aside I think I found the case I want. It is identical to the aluminum case by Eagle reviewed on the front page only it is beige in color and doesn't have the multi-media jacks on the front, which I have no need for anyway. And it is only $79 US, including all the fans.

www.etoyou.com (http://www.etoyou.com) I bought a Antec SX800 w/o psu for 57.97 before shipping, You could get the SX830 w/ 300w psu for 87.88 w/o shipping or the SX840 w/ 400w psu for 121.91 w/o shipping.

get an antec soho file server, possably in black, they are quite common and are being sold in the uk as chantec cases - which is what nick cw is talking bout there is a review here http://www.gamingin3d.com/reviews/antec/ and you can get them at these places http://neoseeker.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php?masterid=330805&getprod=1&ut=d57a4ec74405a57b
I found the same SOHO 10 bay server that you mention without a psu for 59.97 at the place that jbslow mentioned. Not a bad price, but as I mentioned, I had found an ALUMINUM case and from what I have read they are much better at shedding heat. Now I am really confused. I do like the look of the Antec, too. Anyone got any comments as to "steel vs aluminum" or do we need another thread?
Alluminum cases dont realy improve temps all that much. I didnt notice adifference with my enermax alluminum case over a convetional steel case. However they are much nicer in quality and looks and are very light. Its realy up to you.

Go look at A Tops website, they have a ton of nice cases. I got their 821 case. 7 fans, mine now has a 120mm blowhole as well. 10 bays. Side panels come off. Nice. Here's an interior view and their website:

Aluminiom cases are to expensiv and a lot of conventional cases look better. Just stick a few fans in it.
See the vent at the front? Thats for 2 intake fans!

Alu cases are much better if you want to move your case at all, they're one hell of a lot lighter.
Like i said...its realy just a personal preference. They both have there place... No need to debate over which is best.
See if this sounds like it would work. Antek SOHO 1000 series server case, comes with 2 80mm fans in back for $59.97. I already have 2 other matched 80mm fans for the front. I also have a 56cfm Panaflo 92mm fan that could be used in conjunction with a 47cfm Panaflo 80mm that I have to put on the 8045 Alpha and rig some duct work between the two. I already have the twin-fan 430w Enermax and all the extra fans so all I am out is the 59.97 and shipping. If the aluminum is not any better at cooling,(I dont move case except to tinker) maybe the extra $20 can just pay for the shipping. Does this setup sound like it should do the job, or should I add something else?
